I think this one may take DNA. Although he looks GSD, I recently saw a dog that looked like a pure GSD puppy, but with big ears. the DNA said, in spite of appearance, more Mal than GSD.

27 years ago right after we bought our first home, I wanted a puppy. My husband said the yard wasn't ready but I didn't care. He went away with his brothers on a fishing trip up north, and I grabbed the classifieds. There was an ad for Purebred german shepherd puppies for sale, and off I went. I found the place, and it wasn't in a very nice neighbourhood, but that didn't matter, I was getting a purebred german shepherd puppy and was too excited to notice. I knocked on the door, they let me in, and opened the basement door, and up came this little puppy. I immediately fell in love paid them, 300.00 and brought Cali home. She was so timid, but soon after, she was playing ball hockey with the kids on the street. They always had to bring a bucket of tennis balls, because just as fast as a ball went over the curb she was just as fast at taking it and running to the back yard with it. She lived 10 years, and we have never had such a great dog. Smart as a whip. My point here is that when I saw your pictures my heart skipped a beat. Your pup is the exact, and I mean exact, replica of my Cali. The exact same markings, the size, the exact same colours in the exact same place.
I remember her first trip to the vet that same afternoon of the day I picked her up. I was so proud, as I had a purebred german shepherd, and was so insulted when the vet looked at my purebred german shepherd and she asked me what kind of dog did I have. WHAT??? Why this is a purebred german shepherd puppy, and she looked at me and said Lynn, I don't think so. She said she has seen many purebred german shepherd puppies, and as much as she thought I would like to think Cali is a purebred she thought otherwise. She said she thought maybe shepherd, dobie cross.
As it turns out, Cali was probably not a purebred, but truthfully, it never mattered. She was the best dog we ever owned  It was always fun trying to figure out what else was in her. But having owned a number of purebred shepherds I can see now, that our Cali was probably not a purebred, but in the grand scheme of things, who really cares if you have the best dog in the world.

I TOTALLY DISAGREE. I KNOW A LOT ABOUT MALINOIS AND I KNOW THAT THIS COLOR SCHEME IS ACCEPTABLE IN BELGIAN MALINOIS COLORS. IT COULD BE A GSD BUT DO NOT RULE OUT MALINOIS. GO LOOK UP BELGIAN MALINOIS COLORS ON GOOGLE IMAGES ITS A CHART AND ONE OF THE DOGS (BICOLOUR MALINOIS) IS EXACTLY LIKE THIS DOG
