Elizabeth,

Good posts here.  Your female is a fine size.  It the male that's too large.  I'm agree with Molly that for the first breeding you might want to pair her with a male that's mid-sized.

Certainly it's possible that you could breed her to big dog and have no problems, but with so many good males to choose from, why go there?  Are you in a SchH-impoverished area of the country?  Would you have to drive very far to reach other potential studs?

One of my best females is about the same weight. She is KK1, at the lower end of the size limit, but produces normal sized pups with my 64.5 cm stud dog. She has no trouble whelping. You might get a couple of med-sized pups, but I wouldn't worry about it as long as most of her relatives are within the standard. I would only breed her one time for the first breeding.

Thanks Yvette, I will probably start looking for a nice male, I felt like my male was too big for her, however, he really does not produce very large males.

Shelley,  thanks for the info, that sets my mind at ease and I am not worried about the med-sized pups, that is actually what I would prefer.  Thanks

My current female is about 50lbs and 56-57cm tall.  For her first litter, I bred her to a medium size male who is around 80lbs.  She was an easy breeder and easily whelped 7 puppies in about 5 hours.  When the pups left here, all were looking to be larger and more substantial then her except for one petite female who went to a SAR home is doing great.  The female I kept is almost the heigh of her mom now at almost 6 months of age and weighs more then her already.  I didnt expect to get huge pups in the litter, but hoped to gain more substance which I did!
