Degenerative Myelopathy. It is similar to Multiple Schlerosis.

This lady has been a big advocate for getting info out about medical/genetic problems with German Shepherds, starting with DM. Seems it's another very serious problem quite prominent in this breed that no-one talks about.
This isn't to scare you. Just to give info both to you and others.

When was the last time the dog was tested/treated for parasites? This may also be a simple case of a heavy burden of worms, giardia or other parasite. Submit stool samples, several days apart to the vet.
