Going back to my statement concerning my paranoia about this matter. I have read substanciated materials (including one posted here) where a dog/puppy received a faulty hip joint evaluation by a veterinarian who suggested corrective surgery (very expensive) when no surgery was required. In one such event the dog later passed with an O.F.A. "Good".

In this life I have extensively used the services of three (3) different veterinarians. While all provided adequate care for my dogs, only one was an obvious expert when it came to canine health and reproduction. Unfortunately he is not the one I have available today. I am still "educating" the one that I currently use for his practice is close to my home.

So in short; although all veterinarians train with the same basic theory and protocol, they are certainly not equal in the practice of their discipline.

Best Regards,

Bob-O

Those are the worst positioned xrays that i have seen.  I would demand my money back and then go to another vet.  Like Molly said the only thing you can be sure of with these xrays is that there are indede hip sockets.

This is the xray of my DDR female...she got OFA GOOD....this is what a correct xray should look like...I took this picture with my digital camera of the original xray. So it is extremely clear.

Never seen such a terrible job at positioning.  You need to go to a different vet with experience with doing GOOD hip x-rays

well, positioning is a lot of help but you have what you have.   the femur head as viewed on the right, is not symetrical enough along with having what looks to be some changes in the lateral rim and medial rim.  Because of the positioning and this reproduction, one cannot tell about any changes on the neck of the femur.   either redo the xray or take this one to someone who does a lot of hip xrays especially on German Shepherds.   A reproduction is not the easiest anyway.   Before you hammer your vet, you might ask why the vet was not able to stretch the dog and positon the femurs parallel.  The pelvis is in a good spot.  Good luck with this.  and good for you for having an xray done to try to find out!

I have recieved a few emails from vets / experts since putting up this post and I have to thank all for their very positive feedback. One in particular had sent me x-rays which were classed as being very good and then he sent me the same dog with his hips in the same position as my dog was x-ray'd and you would not think it was the same dog.

I will be returning to my vet armed with all the posts and emails not to bash but ensure that I get correct x-ray and I will post new x-rays.

Thanks again.

And you explain to him that you are not paying for the second set of xrays...then when ofa is ready at 2  do not use that vet for any reason...I dont think he can do what is necessary no matter if you tell him...he shouldnt have ever even given you those...
