Krazy Bout K9s

by Krazy Bout K9s on 11 December 2010 - 04:12

 Lucciasmom,
I took in a rescue 4 yrs ago. Purebred from vonWaldberg kennels. She was about 2  yrs old, when I got her in. I noticed her lymph nodes, under her jaw,  were huge the minute I picked her up. Took her in, biopsied and positive for lymphoma. We did do chemotherapy-pills and she did great. What we almost lost her to was excessive bleeding from the biopsy. Anyhow, she got better on the chemo and prednisone. Weaned her off the pred. She did get adopted for whatever time she had left. Well, this is 4 yrs later, she went through 2 more treatments of chemo at the U in Colorado....now the owner has decided no more chemo, and just let her be.
She is still active and plays and fights like a true B**** GSD...There is hope and the chemo that they have depending on the type of lymphoma is not hard on them...Here is a pic of Thel when I first got her, and took her pheasant hunting with me...
BTW: I DID CONTACT VON WALDBERG KENNELS TO LET THEM KNOW I HAD A DOG OF THEIRS AND THAT SHE HAD CANCER AND NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE BACK, EMAIL AND PHONE CALL...go figure...

My bitch in my avatar has lymphoma. It was caught when I got her spayed last January and we did one round of chemo on her and so far she's doing well. She goes in every 3 months for bloodwork and a general checkup.

I was worried about the chemo but the vet I saw said most dogs take it well. She did very well on it and I am happy with the results.

I had a cat who had lymphoma and we went the route of pred on her and she lived comfortably for another 2 months but we didn't find her lymphoma until it was late stage so this was the best that could be achieved for her.

Best of luck in whatever method you choose for your girl.

Hi all,
Has anyone tried "The Cancer Diet", under the article Integrative Treatment of Cancer in Dogs, by RM Clemmons? The link was a suggestion from a supportive member and I was thinking of trying it. Any thoughts or has anyone had any luck with a specific diet for a GS with Lymphoma? We are going the steroid route now, but are still looking at all sorts of options. Again, thank you for the support., Jessica.

I know someone who was feeding a dog w/cancer apricot something or other...pits or seeds or something from Mexico............I will ask.

We KNOW cancer needs sugar/carbs to flourish, so I would think any grain-free, high protein, low carb/sugar diet would be beneficial, though I haven't read the diet you're referencing.
