Heather, I wrote in my SIEGER IMPRESSIONS 2005 (October 2005) At this point of my IMPRESSIONS I must mention a topic which came up in conversations throughout the Sieger Show, THE ASSISTED COLOURING OF SOME DOGS WITH DYES. It was clear that some dogs had been coloured in most, if not all classes. The gold, or brown markings of the dogs is where it was most obvious, but black saddles, and possibly the black fore-faces, were also considered to have been done on some dogs. This is a serious matter and needs to be urgently addressed by the SV before it gets out of hand, otherwise the floodgates will inevitably open on this problem. When people seeing this done and also see it being an advantage to the dog, they will do the same. Some people laughed when they saw some dogs which had obviously been dyed, but this is no laughing matter. The other serious side of this behavior is when breeders use a male that has been coloured, thinking his colour is genuine, this can lead to a litter with colouring they did not want or anticipate. I would have thought it was possible to take several samples of hair from say each of the top 20 dogs in each class, and others randomly, immediately the class has been judged. The samples can then be analysed and any found containing a prohibited substance, then the SV could decide that the dog concerned, forfeits his place at the Sieger Show, and what appropriate action is taken against the owner and/or halter. (a person who looks after and trains the dog) THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS WERE PUBLISHED IN THE SV ZEITUNG 05-2006 Achtung Aussteller SV- Bundessiegerzuchtschau Aus begründetem Anlass weisen wir darauf hin, dass bei festgestellter färbung oder farbmanipulation am Hund, der betreffende Hund disqualifiziert wird und gegen de Eigentümer ein vereinsinternes Verfahren eingeleitet wird. This does NOT detail the test system. Many people are being confused by the following SV statement, made at the same time: Achtung Aussteller SV- Bundessiegerzuchtschau In der Sitzung des Zuchtausschusses und des Verwaltungsund Wirtschaftsausschusses wurde festgelegt, dass seitens der Herren Richter der SV- Bundessiegerzuchtschau bei ersten 20 Hunden ein besonderes Augenmerk darauf zu richten ist, dass diese in der laufenden Saison mindestens drei Mal unter verschiedenen Richtern ausgestellt waren. Dies gilt altersmäßig nicht fuer die Jugendklassen. This has nothing to do with the COLOUR issue. I would really like to know if the SV is going to adopt a system similar to what I suggested above.

Ice, it is not amusing for me to know that you fail to appreciate just how good Vegas is. This is a failure in your knowledge of our breeds highest standards. Without any doubt, Vegas is a SUPERSTAR. Is it possible that some Germans would only see these qualities in a German bred dog?? This French bred dog "Vegas du Haut Mansard" is absolutely outstanding, and in my 31 years in this breed, he is the very best I have seen. His progeny WILL also prove that he will be an aotstanding producer. POLITICS will NOT effect the fabulous contribution Vegas will make to our breed, and the fantastic LEGACY he will leave. THAT IS ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN - ABSOLUTELY

Heather, Could you imagine if the Colour test was 'random' in eacg class. Who would decide which dog was tested? maybe the Judge! Would a Judge select a dog that he bred be TESTED? Would a Judge select a dog owned by a friend be TESTED? Would a Judge be totally unbiased in selecting dogs to be TESTED? The first 20 in each class, including ALL VA's should be tested, and randomly after that.

Well maybe they have read your impressions from last year and decided it's time to act. I agree that a test of the top group in all classes is the way forward, including the VA group. Thereafter if a dog is obviously not the correct colour then test it. There is no point in testing dogs that obviously have not been coloured. I doubt it would be fair to leave it to a judge to decide.

Heather You wrote, I only hope that Vegas will still be shown so that we can all see him again. Is there any reason he won't be shown. Regards Terry

by Heather on 09 August 2006 - 15:08

I hope not, I for one am really looking forward to seeing him again.

Hi everyone, I have been in GSD's since 1982 and went to the Sieger Show in Ulm last year where I saw Vegas for the first, but hopefully not the last, time. Vegas is so beautiful, in stance and in movement, that he gave me goose bumps. If I owned him I'd shoot him, stuff him and mount him because I'd never breed anything so perfect again!! I just fervently hope that he is able to produce sons and daughters that meet and exceed him. If he does, we are in for a treat in the next few years :) Can't wait for my trip to the Sieger Show next year when his babies will be competing. And of course, we can't forget his Dad Pakros, also a most lovely animal.

Superb looking male, with excellent bloodlines.

My favorites for last two years-Quantum Arminius and Zamp. Wish I could be there this year.
