It seems the cause of the restlessness was the metronizadole. I withheld her dose on Wednesday morning and by late evening she was better. By Thursday morning she was acting normally. I took her to the vet Thursday morning anyway and had her labs done again- all normal. Since she was on the Tramadol the vet didn't think she was in any pain. Also, when he palpated her she did not react at all. I am continuing to give Shelby a half dose of the metro. I think we are ok, although I'm not ready to completely let my guard down.

Pleased to hear this Char.

I was talking to my vet this week about my girl completely losing her top coat. Not just blowing her coat, but shedding all her top coat. No skin probs, etc etc. Looks very peculiar LOL, though I think she is beginning to grow a new one (going to take awhile!).  Anyway, the only thing I could put it down to after racking my brains, was changing the drugs that she was on for arthritis back in July, although the NSAID we switched to  (Metacam) does not have coat problems listed as a side effect. She had been on her original drugs for a number of years, but I went to the vet to be sure I wasn't missing something.  He came to the same conclusion, and was saying that different drugs are metabolized differently by the body. But again, it is an unusual reaction, but just because it isn't listed as a known side effect, doesn't mean it isn't the cause.

What happens now about the gall bladder infection, now the labs are all OK, does it mean it's cleared up, but you just keep a watchful eye in future?

I'm so sorry to hear about your girl shedding out her top coat. Is she still on the Metacam or did you switch to something else? Having done lots of caregiving over the last 12 years for both humans and pets, nothing would surprise me. My mom reacted to a drug named Singulair and the doctor insisted she could not have had "that" particular reaction. Well, I know without a doubt that she did. There of been many other similar instances. Anyway, I'm glad you figured out the cause of your girl's coat shedding out and that it is coming back. She is such a beautiful dog.

As for Shelby, she will have an ultrasound in a month or so to see how things look. She is still on medication to thin the sludge in her gallbladder and is on a low fat diet. She is also on a liver cleansing drug and I don't know how long she needs to stay on that. It's my understanding that once you have gallbladder disease it must be monitored for life and there is always a chance of another flare up.
