Liesjers

My upcoming puppy is sort of a birthday/Christmas present, but it's more in the montary sense.  This year, we forgo birthdays, anniversary, and Christmas presents because we are getting a puppy.  I wouldn't want someone to not breed good litters b/c of where the heat cycle happens to fall.  My dog is my "present" simply because I'm not getting anything else, lol, so when Christmas comes and we don't exchange gifts I'll look at my new boy and smile.  I've been looking for a new working line dog for years, and personally I'd rather have a puppy in the spring.

But, I'm sure breeders get more calls this time of year and it must be a pain to sort them all out!

"The people you sell a puppy too are the same people no matter what time of year it is."

The people from who you will get inquiries likely are not.

"Like I could control the heat cycle of my dog...Please."

Of course not but you can reasonably estimate when it will be and when the pups will be born if you breed her.  The one time I bred a bitch of mine, I made the decision that if the late February breeding didn't take, I would wait two cycles before trying again specifically to avoid this headache.  And why not?  Using the same breeding pair with the same genetics allows for the same chances of a nice litter regardless of whether they are bred now or six months from now.

If the goal of breeding is selling puppies then I can understand why someone wouldn't want to wait to crank out another litter.

Yes..... It's the breeders responsibility to know who they are dealing with... No contest..............Christmas or no....... I prefer a winter litter personally and I have people waiting for my litter. I really don't have control and don't count the days to any given holiday. Maddy will be bred mid week for a repeat breeding with my Indy, I dunno, add four months give or take a few days. Maddy's almost five, this is her second litter.

Very important reminder KCzaja! Let's keep bumping this one to the top for the next two and half months!

It's a moot issue anyway, then; isn't it?  Why you prefer a winter litter, though, is beyond me.

I waited till winter for my pup because it gets INSANELY hot here in the summer and it will be easier and more pleasent to be outside training the little stinker.  Winter here is when the fun outside time starts.  Finally in the low 80s.  Last christmas I hung my christmas lights in a T-shirt and jeans with no shoes on.   Could be a regional / weather thing.

Winter...... No mosquitoes.... no ticks.....less parasitic activity.... no 90 degree heat.......much more comfortable to mother and young.....full sun again without the heat..... Cold nights.......Remember, I let my dog deliver outside..... The pups live outside..... Strong healthy puppies...... The Mute point is, breeder choose wisely when selling a puppy no matter what time of year it is....... the rest is just chit chat.......

I moved into my house last august. And I wanted to get my puppy right around Christmas time as a gift for my daughter. I wasnt shopping but the breeder I wanted to purchase from actually had the litter ready to go right after halloween but for my daughter it was a Christmas gift a few months early. But I put her in a box and surprised my daughter and that is a memory we will have for a life time. But of course I didnt decide to purchase due to the time of the year. That is just when I was ready to purchase. The only thing I would have wante done differently was to surprise my daughter on Christmas day and had a camera ready. I brought her home on monday nite while football was on so I was somewhat distracted. I told my daughter number 11 was purchased. That was her name with the breeder and my daughter really bonded with her on our visit. For me it was a long drawn out process and I wanted to make it a lasting memory of our new family member. For the right family a "Christmas puppy" can be a once in a life time experience.
