Virkon kills bacteria and viruses. It forms a good cleaning solution in proper dilution. It is sold in livestock supply outlets as it is for cleaning and disinfection for livestock and vet clinics. It is safe for people and animals in proper dilution. It is the very best thing I have found. I use it with a pail and mop. It is widely recommended by agriculture departments and vets. It also does not smell strong and takes away the bad odours as well. Animals can be placed back in the runs when you are done cleaning as it does them no harm.

Here at the shelter we use... in a one gallon weed type sprayer 1 cup bleach 1 cup pine-sol scoop the poo first, spray with the sprayer, Let sit NO LESS THAN 20 Minutes, CONTACT TIME IS EVERYTHING !!!!!!!! Then rinse and squeegie ! No smell, and even in the enclosed runs with the pinesol added to the mix, No nose buring, no sneezing dogs, no watering eyes, and no funky taste.

If you have used this product in your kennels, how well does it work for odors and flies? I have gravel runs and have been looking for an enzime or Microbial solution, to break up the feces left behind after hosing down and pick up.

sawdust, or chips are the best for breaking down poo ! If you can get some type of wood bedding for your outside runs, You will find anything that is left behind will be broken down by the wood. It's pretty amazing and super easy to clean runs.

I have done wood chips Echo. I love them. I have used cedar and pine for years. It's soft fo rthe dogs to lay on and it keeps the dust and smell down. Also good in winter for keeping them warm and out of the mud. My boyfriend teases me mercilesly and says I would bath in wood chips as he commented the other day to my daughter. Thanks so much for proving, I am not the only one who loves shavings in runs and kennels. My pet dogs are still with shavings, he made me use gravel in the new kennels thinking it would be easier cleanup. LOL so much for that idea. Poop sticks to gravel. We throw so much rock out it makes me cry.

In my large outside pens, there is ground, and shavings. VERY easy to clean. However, they need frequent additions of new shavings as the old stuff gets ground into the dirt, anytime it's wet out, new shavings are added so the dogs keep out of the wet and can lay down in comfort and stay clean. I use pine shavings - get a big truck load for the horses and dogs. molly
