Rik,

How may are PTS because they are too much for the family to handle?

Will all this information save the breed? Absolutely not! There are thousands of German Shepherds out there being bred by breeders that all have varied opinions of what the breed should be. Puppies  coming from many different types of German Shepherds. There are simply too many variables out there to try to change the breed.

Can you take this information and better the working ability in your breeding program? Can you narrow your search for a Universal Competitor? Can you pierce the claims of the breeders that claim to breed working ability by looking at their breeding stock? I think the answer to all three is; Absolutely!

I ran across a female puppy who is a Quartz descendent from an established producing motherline. If anyone is interested in the bloodline, search puppies for sale 'Quartz Descendent'.

I couldn't even venture to guess Randy. I can say that I am not inexpeerienced with dogs and I was surprised at the difference in the German puppies I have had and the Am. ones of the past.

Even my "sissy" s/l was quite a bit rougher than anyting I had ever experienced. never had a puppy attack a lawn mower before. or pull an irrigation system out of the ground because the water spray pizzed them off.

and the Javir daughter I think would have put many first time puppy buyers into shock. she was walking around on counter tops when she was 6 mo. and that's just one of the funny things she did. there was a whole lot that wasn't real funny to me.laugh

Rik,

That's some of the problems with producing showlines that work. Many homes are not prepared to deal with or tolerate the behavior. I have had many breeders decide against breeding to a dog because he produced 'too strong' a dog. They wanted more mild mannered dogs for their pet homes.

I'm going to bump this back up by saying.....what an awesome thread! My bitch has many of the lines mentioned, & many of the qualities promoted; & unfortunately, an owner who didn't know enough at the time to do right by her. But, at 7 years old, she can still jump, she still has to investigate every inch of the yard energetically, & will still face any challenge enthusiatically! She's biddable, & totally stable with the grandchildren. And she has the fire.....she is my eagle! You all make me realize anew how very lucky I am to have her! jackie harris

Natz is a very good looking dog. I also have a son of Dux De Cuatro Flores with great temperament and drive. He got it from both the mother and father's lines.

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO ERIN & ZAMBO.....

So once again... I bring this point to the fore..... Here is a VA8 dog (at the 2010 NASS) who was judged V2 in Austria at the WUSV Universal Sieger championship who holds its own amid the best of the best..... who is a proven producer of quality pups....

and I have yet to see an analysis of its genetics by the pundits and savants of the Internet.....

my suggestions to the rest.... don't look in the rear view mirror of the Internet geneticists..... the future is staring you in the face right above this post.
