Beast,

I take my dogs to a local lake for a nice swim on a regular basis. After they're dry, I brush them out. Seems to keep them from smelling "doggy." I prefer swims to baths, because jumping through the waves really gets the water down to the skin, without me having to scrub. I rarely ever use any type of soap on them.

As for your kennel, what sort of floor do you have? For concrete, I've used bleach and simple green -- not at the same time -- and both work nicely.

If you have a set up on dirt pea-gravel draining to dirt I have a recipe one of my friends gave me for getting the pee smell out of dirt and grass without poisoning the ground. I'll try and track it down. It works great. Sorry I don't have it memorized or I'd post it now

They sell digestive enzymes for dog kennels ( or spots on the carpet) at most large retail stores. It will actualy break down the little peices of poop or pee that have been left behind after scooping.  They sell it in a powder and in liquid.. much like septic enzymes.. it will compleatly distroy stinky kennel smell.

For BO, I use apple cider vinegar, one tablespoon on the food per day.  It will take a couple of weeks to be effective.  It controls the yeast.  I have a Shih Tzu that used to have a bad yeast problem we used to call him Mr. Stinky.  The ac vinegar cleared it up.  No more bad smell.

For removing the pee smell from dirt and grass -- a friend wrote this down for me, and works very well:

Mix
1 quart of water
1 cup of lemon-scented dish soap
1 cup of lemon-scented ammonia
1 capful of mint-flavored mouthwash

Put it in a garden sprayer and spray away. It does get very sudsy but don't rinse it. Safe to both dogs and other animals but it does kill bugs rather well.
