I think we will have to start slower and lower than the suggestion so far remember the breed people dont want to train their dogs otherwise they would do it anyway, and at this stage even minor participation maybe will show them just what direction the show dogs are going, then they might want to recognise that in their breeding considerations and want to push their new found enjoyment in dog training to a higher level

Can anyone give me an idea just how many animals are surveyed per year!

reason - you need someone with all the GSD National Mags - they list surveyed animals in there.  Unfortunately I have lent some out so cant work that out for you.  I know its not that many.

Reason, I don't know, couldn't even guess but Sheila Rankin (BC Sec) will know, she's very helpful.  You can email her from the BC website.

More should be Surveyed in future because it's now necessary to acquire the "enhanced pedigree".

The Korung (WUSV Breed Survey) can be brought into Great Britain within a few months. The time it takes to organise an SV Kormeister and helpers, the venue etc. Several Korungs can be held each year, organised by the WUSV member Clubs, BAGSD and GSD League.

Now that the WUSV Korung is an "ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT" to be considered for a VA title at our BRITISH SIEGER EVENT, I find it staggering that at least ONE Korung has not been organised for this year. In Germany a Kormeister can survey 50 dogs at one Korung (WUSV Breed Survey).

I suggest that BAGSD members, and GSD League members and also SV members within Great Britain, write to the Secretary of both British WUSV Clubs, and request that they organise a Korung in Britain urgently.

I have been on holiday and crikey what a lot has gone on.

Halfway thro reading Davids proposals, but must say they look good to me.  This thread has gone off track again and perhaps the important thing to remember is that personalities just dont count, its the breed that is important.  Some comments on here seem very personal and attacking, but whats the point.  Even if someone has a real problem with another person, but has the ability to see the other person is doing their best for the breed then surely old hatchets must be buried.  It has been said that small people in the breed will not be able to do anything to help with the breeds future, that is true in a way, but they can support those who are putting logical and well though out strategies.  I think the bigger people in the breed have an equally hard time helping put proposals forward due to long time grudges etc.

Please can we continue as before getting on one track, leaving grudges at home and concentrating on our dog.

Well said Estweyn.

I think its time we got some feedback from the Breed Council and Clubs.

We definately need to be working as a breed and not type or training.  Until we get some feedback from all of this from higher up we cannot move on.  We need the "on high" to pass their comments and then formulate how we continue with this.

I am very pleased to report that I received a phone call from Malcolm Willis just prior to my leaving for the German Sieger Show, and he expressed clear support for my proposals, Malcolm also stated that the GSD Breed Council should get behind these proposals. I would add that Malcolm stated there was some "detail" on which he may hold a different opinion, for example he would "delete" item (9) reference line breeding, he feels that breeders of GSD should not have this restriction placed upon them. Malcolm also considered the elbow score 'maximum' should be 2:2. The surprise for me was when Malcolm said we should NOT exclude non standard colours from achieving Class ONE registration. I suppose from a HEALTH point of view, the more INCLUSIVE such a scheme becomes, the better for our breed as a whole.

I am delighted with the positive comments from many notable people within our breed; I have not heard any negative comments. It appears we have a great opportunity for our breed here in the UK, I hope WE don't fail to ensure it becomes a reality.

Steps are already being taken to bring the WUSV Korung to Great Britain.

The introduction of these two valuable schemes will enable us to ensure the MENTAL AND PHYSICAL SOUNDNESS of the GSD in the UK.

Its good to hear that M Willis likes the proposal in general.  I suppose it was expected that there would be some who felt it too restrictive.

Lets hope this can get moving fairly quickly and that the breed council and co help bring this forward so that we can stand with our heads high saying we are working for the benefit of our breed no matter what type or who the owner/breeder is.

Excellent news DP, I'm sure Malcolm Willis is not the only one.  Also great that there have been no negative comments out there.

I'm looking forward to seeing Reason's draft.

Following the "negative action" from the RSPCA and DOGS TRUST, in respect of them both withdrawing from Crufts 2009 and Discover Dogs, it may be useful for GSD folk to send 'printed copies' of the "proposals" by snail mail to both these Organisations. They should be encouraged to support the "positive" nature of these proposals to improve the health of GSD and other breeds. They could help us in our efforts to obtain agreement with the Kennel Club, surely "positive action" by these organisations is their preferred option.
