i was very slow to jump on the fero bandwagon. when i finally did, it was with a mink/fero bred female. it didn't take me long to realize that this combo was not my favorite. (personal preference) the dogs i purchased later with fero, but no mink were much more to my liking. this is not to say that mink is bad, but rather that mink works better with some other lines than it does with fero. linebreeding on fero has produced some really awesome dogs. its a pity that the two names are linked........"mink/fero free." it makes them sound bad; undesireable. being so fixed that you would actually prohibit a certain bloodline from your kennel could actually work to your detriment. missed opportunities.
my personal favorite is fero/fado breeding. these days, the names are moving further back on the pedigrees, though. that is when it is nice to see them 3x in the 4th generation. :)

I have a female with mink/fero/fado. I have read that dogs from mink are ugly but I don't think she is ...and don't know what's to avoid...there is a lot I read that I don't pay too much attention to anymore

Guys,
Thank you for clearing it up. I did not know if I was missing out on something negative about having them in the pedigree. As was stated, I know it is hard to find a dog that is free of these lines and that it will create a genetic bottleneck. I, personally, like what I see from these dogs progeny, however, I am not close minded to dogs without them either. A good dog, is a good dog.

I had a Pike/Troll granddaughter who was to DIE for. Her new owner is getting ready to start campaigning her in spring. What a cool dog with CRAZY drive, oooooey! what a wild ride! and she is still a good house dog. She goes back to Fero in almost every dog, about 6 or 7 generations back.
