Jimmy Moses didn't show up....which could explain the four missing entries (it explains Tony at least).

Tony was missing
China was Missing
Hunter was Missing
Stetson was missing

By the way, in all breeds, I show my male "Strung up behind the ears" for the down and back because the ring is so tiny.  He's put on the dead ring for the go around.

I LOVED the body on Twist (BOB), I've always liked Bandit's body....I've seen him move much better, and he showed poorly that day.  That was an unusual performance by him...I've seen him much more confident.  I didn't care for Chanel at all.  Heads can be improved without too much effort...much more easily than fixing af ront anyway

I liked that Schnauzer, too.   Not an alternative for me, though-- I just could not ever keep up with the grooming, and I have seen a couple in schutzhund that were not groomed.  UGH!  One  looked like he always had a dead bird on his head.

i don't have a particualrly well developed "eye" for correct structure but the gsds did look cowhocked to me as well.  i wish i could take a still from the video to illustrate but cowhocked it what i saw.

to see it in the winning bitch go to the video http://video.westminsterkennelclub.org/player/?id=1003941 and just over 3/4 of the way through (if the clock counts backward like it did for me it's around 2:17) and you can see it very clearly. if they weren't then all these years i was thinking my first gsd was cowhocked when he really wasn't.

i am wondering, with the popularity of the breed, why only 3 gsds showing?

As far as the GSD's( and I use that term loosely) ------->

"Heads can be improved without too much effort.."

Interesting about those heads - Made me think once of a dog (not a GSD) who did not video well at all.  However, she did win BOV at her national specialty, owner handled.  BEAUTIFUL dog.   Just beautiful.  When the AKC breed video was made for her breed, she was used in the video for the gaiting portion, but when all the video was reviewed they also ended up using her head closeup as an example of a too-thin muzzle!  It was awful, but she looked terrible on camera.  The dog who was used as the "good" head was, although a nice dog himself, in person actually too coarse, which is why he'd been selected for the video as a "faulty" head, but on camera he looked perfect.  The only consolation was that everyone recognized her in the gaiting portion and no one ever recognized her in the head-shot.  (All the dogs were handled by one person, a professional handler, on camera, and no names are put with the dogs so you don't know who they are).

I knew both these dogs really well, as I was the person who made the trip with them up from FL to the video shoot in VA.  It was quite a lesson in how pictures, even moving pictures, can deceive.

I'll admit that I was rooting for Stumps... This has been an amazing dog for so many years.  To come back after 5 years off in that shape and look that good says a LOT for the quality of the dog.   The Scottish Deerhound was a beautiful moving animal, and would have been my other choice.. and behind that the Puli.   Amoung dogs who didn't win I thought that the Briard was exceptional.

While I'd LOVE for Shepherds to win 100% of the time... this years choices were slim to none... maybe because Bob Slay was judging group, and he's a Shepherd person... so would suspect some politics.  Even for American Show type the 3 who showed up didn't excite me, and I'd rather see them passed over than put up as an example to novices of what they should look for in a GSD>

Actually could be politics in a different way: I think judges at shows like this make a special effort NOT to favor their own breed.  LIke Patricia Craig with the Hound Group - she LOVES Norwegian Elkhounds best and if she'd put one up people would say, well, of course she'd do that.....

so I think that the judges wait for a Super Outstanding Fabulous specimen of their own chosen breed to put it up at a big show.
