It depends on the foundation of both the fence and the bridge.  Some fences are not worth mending and some bridges are better burned.

Don't fence me in.
-and-
I can swim to the other side, even if I have to go up or downstream.

In both cases, there are times that it's better to find alternatives

 @ Raymond

by Louise M. Penery on 29 July 2010 - 05:07

Louise stalks anyone she thinks might have money Louise can get to, including Sharon, Julie, Vera, and Maren. God knows how many others. If you have been manipulated by her, I bet it's because you have something she would like part of. She never was interested in me because I don't have a pot to piss in

I have initiated legal proceedings against Louise. She thinks I'm going to permit her libel but I'm certainly not. If Louise only has a few hundred dollars to her name, she'd better hide it. And she'd better put her house in someone else's name, too, if she EVER tells any more lies about me.

It appears to me that people who feel that they are being stalked/manipulated and unworthy of love or friendship just for being their wonderful selves may have real issues of lack of self-esteem. I know this to be the case with my sister who is 10 years my junior. There is a certain pathology when one cannot accept friendship unconditionally without feeling unworthy and suspecting the motives of one who befriends them.

I grew up with the confidence my parents instilled in me that I could accomplish whatever I selected as my goal. I have no need of a anyone's estate or inheritance. I retired at the age of 55 and have full retirement benefits (UC retirement  and Social Security plus paid health care, dental insurance, legal insurance)  for the rest of my life. I own my home and may reside in it mortgage-free as long as I occupy it. While these facts are the business of no one, they are, indeed, facts. However, if any of my real friends read this post, please know that I love you for who you are and for the warm relationships and companionship we have shared. May you have long, healthy, and happy lives and outlive me by many years.

As for mending fences, you may be pleased to learn that, today, Shelley and I have been in touch  through the exchange of amicable emails. I wish her peace and success and bear her no grudges. While I don't know her well, she has always appeared to me as very immature, unusually child-like, needy, and  trusting.  In recent years, besides Shelleys's failed marriages, I question the wisdom and credibility of her business relationship (not my business, of course) brokering dogs for Dirk Gabriel (Quartier Latin) who was long associated as a business partner of Melissa Kolbe (Shepherds von Ajaye) and her shady but lucrative, scamming internet dealings.

Wow.  If that is your idea of extending a hand of friendship please stay far, far, away from me and mine.
