If stick hits are removed from IPO I'm heading down the road to the local PSA club..its the principle of the thing.  They might as well send the helper out there with a 4 foot tug at this rate and forget the sleeve.  Then the doggies can have fun and the animal activists will be happy.
Attempting to appease animal activists is as stupid as the attempts to appease a certain someone in 1939.  Such idiocy can only be dealt with through strong united opposition.

Gotta nip it, gotta nip it, gotta nip it in the bud!!  IPO without a fake stick hit would be like Jello without fruit cocktail mixed in!!!

Just curious, Bubba, have you ever trained and trialed a dog for a Sch/IPO title? How did it go?

by gsdstudent on 03 December 2013 - 08:12

We always stress to beginners if not all trainers on our home field that worst possible thing you can do as a sportsman is allow your dog to negatively effect another dog. One example would be a dog fight. It is with great disbelief that I continue to read venom from one very poor sport. Why is your ''end game'' such an affront to the honest efforts of the GSD world? Do you like GSDs? Do you like dogs? do you like people? Do you like yourself?  It looks like you need some sleep, go get some rest. It looks like you need to learn to play better with others, shame on your parents.

I would hope that if this occurs that it will be a wake up call to the dog world that we allow ourselves to be ruled by a European group who really have no use for a dog with solid working temperament and ability, that we need to stand apart from the pack and create a strong test of our own with the Dogs heritage at heart. The AWDF has there AWD titles that are a better test then the IPO. The mind set that all mana falls from europe has to be broken!.

I don't know the exact order, but seems they eliminated the attack from the blind ( before my time), the gun fire from BH ( that was still in when I trailed my dogs, so I do know the order) now the stick hits are next. All so that the title is attainable for a certain type, in other words, everybody can be equal to the lowest rung. You know how the alarm is sounded when the website gurus don't like a website.......run !!! Find a better organization which doesn't base the ability to pass the trial according to the least able.

The entire dog world is under the scrutiny of the AR extremists. They go to AKC shows and release dogs from crates, they block entrances to dog shows,  they lobby against weight pulls, sledding events,  the Iditarod, agility, OB, all dog sports. Anything that involves dogs participating in any event they decide violates their rights as animals.

ALL dog people need to unite and learn work together. That means  owners of GSL, GWL, Czech, ASL must put aside their differences and think about the future of all dog sports.  There needs to be an end to the constant belittling of dogs we don't like; that is feeding into the extremist's agenda, they count on dog people to be at odds with one another 24/7. Otherwise IPO, French Ring,  obedience, all dog activities are going to be things of the past. These people have a lot of money and a lot of very influential backers and they work together toward a common goal. That's something everyone who enjoys a dog sport had better learn to do. It's the only way.

The brass ring will go to the people who are smart enough to figure out how to do that at the grass roots level.

Blitzen, I agree with your idea, but I think the changes in schH were not forced by AR whacks, but SV, so that the least capable of the dogs can still pass...the humps in the road are smoothed out til there are no humps. Has nothing to do belittling any dogs, it has to do with politics ( not AR politics, either) and now the stick hits will be eliminated because that is where many of the show dogs are eliminated, bam, no more of the protection routine for that dog. Heck, I took my SL dog for his schH II and the first stick hit blew him off the sleeve. Was I shocked, no. He still loved do everything when we practiced, so who cares if he was put off by a stranger. But would I expect the stick hits to go away so he could pass....if they did I'd know it was a gift. Anyway, I'm not surprised that the stick is going away...it's just more than those dogs can handle, in the main.
