I think EchoMeadows is well-intentioned and does not understand the hostility towards her...however if you're going to be breeding dogs, especially one whose fanciers are as passionate about it as the German Shepherd, you need thick skin. I think Echo it might be a good time to retire your dogs, go out and learn and figure out the kind of dog you really want to breed. I know a lot of people who took years and years studying lines and talking to people before they took a deep breath and bred their first litter. If you truly love this breed, you're going to breed so people who know the breed are going to trip over your doorstep trying to get one of your puppies. I know dog people can act like dogs sometimes and don't seem to do anything more but point out the negatives...but believe me, no matter how much they hate you, if they had something nice to say, they'll say it.

The worst thing in the world is trying to make your dog into something he can never be.

Puputz, good advice, but it's "pearls before swine" in this case.

Puputz many of us have already told her to stop and learn first. You cannot reason with her. This has been ongoing for over a year now. Finally I am sick of it. She asks for advice but wont listen. What do you do with that?

Whoa Whoa, Echomeadows.... I remember YOU asking Oli to remove your previous post, then you bring it up again. Then YOU drag me into it. I suggest you back off....I'm the co-founder of WVSC not its owner as for club members having to buy from me in order to be in the club is total BULL SHIT. I have my personally owned dogs in the club you're dam straight.... As for club members who have TeMar dogs let me count...THREE that's 3 out of the 23 club members having TeMar dogs. One of those 3 dogs is retired...So TWO (2) club members training THEIR TeMar dogs. YOU were warned yeah right....Speak up name names or shut-up.

I was sent to this message board by a member of my club and was compelled to write in.  I seem to be one of the topics of this thread without really wanting to be.  I am the owner of Echo's female who was at the Dean seminar.  I had a really good time and as far as her not doing protection ...that was my call...I ASKED Dean if I should just pull her out because of how she was reacting and he said "Yes..good for you"  I didnt start this training for proctection...I was more interested in the obedience and tracking.  I am a NEW owner and trainer and YES I have made alot of mistakes.. I did not socialize her enough when she was little ...I was afraid to have her around other dogs..in parks etc because my vet said she could get Parvo...yes I have learned alot since then and am still learning and will continue to learn.  I didnt plan on going to Nationals or the Worlds with my dogs...I just wanted to have fun and train them and if I titled them on the way...great!  if not, then its because of my lack of training skills.  I am so sorry I made everyone upset at everyone else.....I didn't mean to.  I have socialized my new puppy more and she is doing well(in my eyes)...she is an AKC obedience/puppy class as well as my Schutzhund club training and hopefully I won't make the same mistakes as I did with the other dog...but like Dean said..."don't give up on her"...and I don't plan too....whatever happens she is still my dog and I will love her no matter what she can or cannot do.  And I do want to add, everyone in my club as been wonderful to help me with both of my dogs and I really appreciate that.

Karyn:  Everyone at the seminar was impressed with how you carried yourself.  You're  doing a great job & I hope you will stay in the sport.  From what I saw,  everyone in the club works hard for & with each other.  I was very impressed with every member I met.  I think anyone would be lucky to be a member of Williamette Valley Schutzhund Club.  You are definitely in good hands with them and an asset to them as well.  This little dust up is not your fault at all!

Bravo for you, Karyn!! As Sue stated, you have absolutley NOTHING to do with the "fault" for this thread. Frankly, I still don't understand what the point of raising it was. :-) Like many, if not most, who first get into schutzhund, a handler works with the dog they come in with. That dog may not, in fact often is not, the best suited for the sport and may not have been selected with schutzhund in mind from the beginning. Most of us do not have disposable dog mentalities where we just get rid of the dogs that are less suited: we love our dogs the same way they love us: warts and all. So, we work with what we have. Learn a lot and apply it with the next dog, that may be more suitable. One of the very best handlers I know is a woman who had a whole string of crappy dogs, before she got one she could take to national and international competition. Even he had warts, but she had learned enough handling real crappers, that she was able to "handle him" over his deficiencies. She would not have learned a lot of it, if she had had only really good dogs to work from the outset. :-) Yeah, and some professionals will claim dogs do not love. Those folks have never lived wioth a dog...obviously. Kennel dogs probably don't. Caged people don't love, eitheriithat's what institutionalization tends to produce. Those are same folks who don't think dogs have a rudimentary sense of humor, or that some of them can be quite spiteful. Anyone who has lived with a dog knows otherwise. They particularly know about spite, if they EVER owned a Scottie!! LOL (And yes, before anyone tries to twist my post, I agree that there folks who must be institutionalized, because we-society- simply cannot live safely with them. They must be either executed, or imprisoned for life) Nia
