Don't like SL's? Dont read the SL forum. Don't like WL's?  Don't read the WL forum. Like both? Read both. If you're not sure which you like, look at the thread topics and read those that interest you or those written by authors whose opinions you respect.

Oli makes and approves all the calls here. He is the decision maker. He started and maintains this forum; it costs us nothing. We get to advertise litters and stud services NC and upload photos of our dogs NC. He is the decision maker. Can't we just respect this and stop trying to undermine the intent of the new forum before we see how it all shakes out?

One last comment, I don't know why I bother to try. Typically once the thread hits this lengthy of a debate it does no good to say anything reasonable bc it means ppl just want some conflict.  Forewarning this is a very motherly comment.  You should all be ashamed of yourself! O.K. not all of you but the ones that are being rude, or slamming the mods (no I'm not sucking up wld defend anyone in this situation).  You would have to be blind or illiterate to not know what the mods were talking about, esp for the new people, we have all commented on it, and we have all been guilty of doing it.  Given the right mood and let what to those of us with experience read a "thumb up the nose" question and we aren't always nice.  We love our breed and we are protective of it, but that doesn't excuse poor behavior. Yes I too have been guilty! You can't just say get a thicker skin.  It is very intimidating for most newbies to post anything it should be obv by their posts that they don't have the experience or knowledge we do, and our experience levels vary.  So they post and inevitably the thread is hijacked by one of us on a bad day, or it turns into a huge pissing contest between members, and sl/wl complete with nasty comments.  Those are the threads that go on and on ..... I understand it is human nature to want to have conflict and yes some conflict is good, that's how things get pushed to change or not to change.  But see this for what it is the mods were trying to be nice, they were trying to make it more comftorable for new members to post without being as intimidated, make it a little easier for them to know exactly where to go to get the info they wanted. What ever happened to just saying Thank You when somebody does something nice for you.  Even if you disagree with it the intent was not to start another argument, Just say thank-you and move on. Use it if you chose or don't either way.

I know a lot of SL people don't care for my posts. Buy I am not pro SL or WL, I am pro correct GS by the standard. If the standard says the dog should be fearless, or should have good moderate sructure, or excellent discernment, that is what I look for and if lacking...point out and criticize. I have criticize sport dogs for having more drive than brains just like I have criticized show dogs for a declining working capability. I have never been personally disrespectful, and have tried to be informative. Yet there are some that think I bash their lines. When truth to standard can no longer be spoken, then probably it is good to have separate areas of discussion with a hope that a new breed can be started. Then maybe what is discussed is in line with what ought to be. Good Luck!

Blitzen,

Do you think these new forums were Oli's idea? I sure don't.

Great post. Gustav--you know you are one of my fave posters here because you are truthful honest and deal with facts. IMO what else can one ask for?

If you're for the betterment of the breed, then you should want and solicit ALL reasonable comments on all types of GSDs. IMO

All personal attacks should be handled by the mod squad, which are quite capable and certainly have the proper tools at their disposal to ensure that personal attacks stop.

Bee Tree,

Yes, I do think he was in the loop since he has to least approve any changes. What makes you think he didn't know or approve the new forums before they were announced?

by beetree on 06 October 2011 - 15:10

I don't think it was his idea, and truthfully, I have no idea really what approvals Admins need to run his site. I don't think he wants to encourage a "split" from the few postings I have read of his, I think he like many on here, think a "split" is not what the originator of the breed had envisioned. It would not be the first time that Oli has let his site be run for him.

I'll reiterate my idea that if there are new forums, they should be based on the activity within a breed, not the "lines". Then all other breeds on the forum could likewise, follow suit should their popularity begin to match that of the GSD forums.

Beetree,

Oli added the forums. Oli approved of the idea, it is Oli's site to do with as he pleases, he has seen the struggle between the 2 groups and he knows he has lost a lot of show line people because of the attitudes of some.

I could re-name the show line-conformation and well the working lines just working would that make it better?

"All personal attacks should be handled by the mod squad, which are quite capable and certainly have the proper tools at their disposal to ensure that personal attacks stop."

Right and as soon as we make a move to take out a disruptive member we are these bad people.

No matter what we do there is going to be a group who does not like it. That is life.
