I hate to say this, but what's wrong with having it all in one package?  Why should there be a split between the two groups?  There's a thread on here that talks about whether the GSD should split from the Alsatian in UK, and from what I'm hearing here, it sounds like there's an impending split between workingline and showline German Shepherds.  If the breed founder, Captain von Stephanitz, wouldn't have liked to see his breed split by country, I surely wonder if he would like to see the working lines separated so from the showlines.  It seems he believed in the total package...

I agree Crys, the world's best GSD, the ultimate champion dog needs to be the highest ranking worker with the best conformation. I don't believe that you can have a champion working dog that doesn't conform anymore than a champion in conformation that can't work efficiently. The best overall GSD should be a combination of both working and confirmation criteria.
