Mystere, you are right again. This thread is going nowhere and has no relevance to GSDs. On more than one occasion, Tina has posted comments on this thread after it has been dead for more than a month which does nothing but stir this silly pot. I'm going to take your advise and others advise and stop posting on this thread. Hopefully we can kill it once and for all !!!!

It is very simple why most GSD enthusiasts are so critical of these two aberrations. Because of the claims about the origin of the breed made by the originator. Claiming the breed anything to do with improving the work of Capt. Von Stephanitz assures a reaction and that is what happened. Plus all the gfolks who have come forth in years past telling of all the serious joint and health issues with these aberrations.

Originally Lara asked what are they bred for?
Money and ego.
Lets also cover peekapoo's , cockadoodles , and cabbits.
People all over the world, including the UK breed what they want. GSD people too.
Its not a sin and its not illegal.

"Recently, I've even heard of a working line GSD breeder moving towards highlines! To me that is peculiar BUT that is their very own choice - and no one else should feel priviledged to condemn it (IMO)."
I could easily see why someone would move from working lines to the highlines, MONEY!
People who are in it for the money for the most part don't even title their own dogs. They ship them off to Germany or wherever to have someone do it for them. They brush and polish them up then take them off to show rings to prance them around like little pony's. It's alot less work and alot less money to deal in working dogs. People for the most part don't want a real working dog nowadays. They want a pretty pony to show off to everyone or a typical looking German Shepherd to give them the perceived feeling of safety. Just look at the dogs Harrison K9 sells. Showline personal protection dogs! Do they look like they could do the job - yes to the layman eye. Could they really do the job, maybe sometimes.

Showline breeders at trials for the most part don't even want their dogs to be seen on the same field with the working line dogs. They are afraid people might see the difference in intensity, focus and overall ability.

Count how many showliners have competed in the BSP or WUSV. That's what's ridiculous. The most "valuable" dogs are the prancing ponies. Something went wrong somewhere!
