LaPorte said, "Reading about this show makes me ashamed to own a GSD." It's not the dogs. It's the people. And, since this was a USCA event, by extension, it's the organization. Reading the comments here about the show, and having heard others from a spectator yesterday, makes me ashamed to be a member of USCA. I'm fervently hoping that someone who was there to see all of this first-hand will send a scathing letter to USCA magazine and that they have the courage and the honesty to print it. Or that the leaders of the organization will write an editorial calling attendees to task for their deplorable actions and behavior.

"What felon issue? Would you please let me know? " (animules) There was a vote at the USA GBM about felons not being able to hold certain positions in USA - I believe it was teaching helpers and administrative positions - may have included regional directors, judges, etc. Not sure of the full scope of it. As I understood it, it passed the EB, but got tabled at the GBM. With all the criticism certain breeds and sports are getting, why allow felons to represent us in prominent positions? I have no idea if there are currently any felons in those positions, but if they wanted to be and got voted in......

I’m brand new to SchH USA. I just received my membership card last week! I suppose I’m one of those rare “Shelly Strohl” finds that she so keenly described in her previous entry… For I am that small, “one dog (not two), one-week-vacation-per-year, wipe-your-feet-because-we-don’t-have-a-maid working schlep…for a few moments in the sun with my pride-and-joy.” I’ll never see the inside of a Sieger Show ring with my little girl, for she is a “coat”, as I have come to learn. I have no problem with that, for she is my heart and sole and I cherish my every moment with her. She comes from nationally ranked stock, but I could not afford Sieger-Show quality. But again, that is perfectly fine with me. I love my little girl. We have many hours, days, and years of fun and joy ahead of us, as we (as a team) pursue a BH and SchH Title(s) for the love and passion of the SchH Sport. I was however so excited with anticipation to learn about the Sieger Show results; so excited that I checked the web sites every day and even checked the local Danbury newspaper web site. Yes, disappointed like many out there to be forced to continue the wait. Like all of you, my heart broke to hear of the tragic loss of the 5 month old puppy. I have no words that could express how I feel about that issue. Well, I suppose since I am so new, I don’t understand or can appreciate why crossing a big puddle of water called the Atlantic Ocean makes German Judges and German Dogs so very much better in judgement and quality. Maybe it is something the airline passes out(?). I’ll never know, but I better leave that up to the professionals and Board Members to address. With regards to the droppings and trash issues, I believe the only way to ensure responsibility is to be able to hold the people (not the dogs) accountable for their actions or lack thereof. Again, I am a complete new-be to all of this, but I thought it might be effective to require handlers to wear a registered number (like runners in a 10K race). Anyone handling an animal at any time throughout the duration of the show would be required to wear their pre-registered number. If they are observed violating the poop and/or trash rule, they would incur a charge to their pre-registered credit card account. Please “clean up your act” SchH USA and Sieger Show. Thank you for caring so much about the German Shepherd Dog.

Kudos to the volunteers that unselfishly worked the show. Having done this before, it is a tough job and you barely get to see anything. The SCH USA org and the clubs in the area, as well as members from outside the area and clubs traveled there, pitched in and supported the event by cleaning up after people, dogs at the event and hotel, constantly patroling the area for dogs in distress. One young volunteer (not to leave anyone out - I heard this information specifically) pulled a puppy in distress and took it to the registration desk to cool off and give it water. The owner, in reponse, supposedly yelled at people for the good deed. That is the person, not the organization. The clean up your act comment should be directed at the people, showing and not, that perpetuated the situation. It should not be directed to the volunteers, the club or USA.

I just want to make it clear that my post was NOT directed at the host clubs or the staff and volunteers at the show. They ALL did one heck of a job doing their best to keep up with everything that was going on, both on the show field and off. I was just shocked at how many people just ignored dog poop by walking over it or around it and those that ignored what their own dogs left behind. Aside from what I posted earlier, I did have a great time and met some awesome people who I hadn't met before. There were some gorgeous dogs there and a lot of wonderful people. The weather was great, a bit warm, but at least the sun was out all weekend.

everyone seeems to be so concerned about dog crap,,,,better to be concerned about the judging of this event!!!!! did they have there eyes closed....what about the female 12 to 18 month females, running them for an hour and a half.......longer than the working males or females...just shows women are incapable of making up there minds. This was the most boring USA event, there were no surprise winners

LaPorte, thanks very much for the explanation. I would fall into the catergory of not allowing felons any position of authority. I'm surprised there are no rules in place to address that, I guess I assumed (silly me) an organization of this size would have standards that relected such integrity.

Mad- Running the entire 12-18 females roughly the equivalent distance of an AD in the hot sun was inexcusable in my book. I would take exception to your reference to gender, of course. Were you not surprised by the high placings of the Precision dogs from Canada? I didn't attend to witness surprises. I went to see a large number of beautiful dogs, evaluate in my own estimation the working ability of some of those dogs in case I want to breed to one or own one of their progeny in future, and hang out with friends from near and far I only get to see at such an event. Why did YOU go? SS

It was good to see Universal Sieger Alex vom Eisenhaus awarded a V rating, albeit the last V, still a V. At just shy of 7 yrs. old he was not shown in the best condition (a little heavy) but gaited valiantly the whole time, not falling into pacing once that I could see. He is a really great looking working dog, beautiful head, strong but kind male expression, you gotta love him. Hanging out at the show grounds late I had the opportunity to watch him practicing bite work. He is very impressive in the work. Hanging out in the crowded hotel lobby he was a complete gentleman, friendly to man, child and beast. Sometimes it was hard to tell one from the other, but Alex seemed indifferent to this. Kudos to his owner for bringing this wonderful dog for all of us working dog fans to admire. I plan to breed her to Carol first, but would seriously consider Alex for my high-octane monster Portia (leg-lifting-stud-hussy-bitch) the next time. (V Pallo Arolser Holz x V Conni alten Turnerplatz) I can see the puppies in my mind's eye... Mmmmm LOL SS
