I have also always been told the process was that on the rabies test. Personally I would hate it, but I'm not a vet or a doctor and don't know the reason for it. But I've always been told that also.

Funk -

you are not telling me anything I don't already know about.  :-)  My step-father was a Military Police officer who had to arrest one of his own for rape.... the victim....ME!!!  I was only 9 yrs old!  And to this day, almost 30 yrs later, I still can not be in the same room as a LEO without getting a pit in my stomach!!!  So, unfortunatly, one could see where I have very little respect for LEO's.  I do, however, have respect for the job that they have to do sometimes.  Seriously talks about "rolling up on a scene" with this or that victim and how difficult it is...blah blah blah.....try BEING that victim!!!!  And as a matter of fact, I hate the word "victim".... Because I'm not a victim.....I'm a survivor!   But a great man once said;

<>BTW seriously  - my last "quote" was not directed at you!  But if you took it personally, and felt the need to resort to name calling, then you might actually have something to learn from it!  The BIG difference between me and you is that I do not judge people.  As a matter of fact, I have even stated that in this thread.  And even with all your name calling and some (I did same some, not all) of your rediculious post on this subject, I have never judged you personally.  Why...because I don't know you....I've never walked in your shoes, and you, Sir, have NEVER walked in mine!!!  <>

Like how you say not directed at me, but then identify and provoke me. Nice.

Silbersee - lol - my Mom lives on just the other side of the county line in St. Mary's County - from what I have heard from her her community is shouting outrage...which doesnt do a whole lot of good seeing as how they are in a different county.  Mother has saved some articles from her local newspaper and has also shown me some stuff on a Southern Maryland Forum.  I think though that those people arent really put into the equation as much because they are in a different county and thus this cop doesnt have an affect on them....I think the Mattia's probably live a little closer to the St. Mary's line though....which may be why they are hearing alot from that side....Our vet clinic down on route five had heard of it as well.

The people in Southern Maryland *are* very nice people...though I wouldnt say metro area persay (MoCo and PG are more of the DC Metro area)...I know of a bunch from that area are from Washington or communte from there.

Ceph,

Charles County was designated as part of the metro area in the late 90s and therefore made emissions testing a requirement.

Depending on where you live in Charles County, it is less than half an hour from Washington DC on its northern border. Of course, St. Mary's is a much longer way. Here is a link to a map: http://www.southernmdisfun.com/somdwhereweare.html . I live in the most western part of Charles, almost on the Potomac River and the stretch from my county line to Washington DC is only about 15 miles through PG county on Indian Head Highway. Most people in Charles County commute to Washington DC. Your mother must live in the Golden Beach/Charlotte Hall area just past the intersection of 5 and 6.

The Mattias family lives right on Route 231 in the Tri-county area on the Eastern part close to the Patuxent River. Yes, this part of Southern MD is less developed than ours and a lot of the people down there either work at Calvert Cliffs (the nuclear power plant) or the Naval station. They might talk about it more since they might pass the Mattias home every day on their commute. As mentioned before, Route 231 is very busy and vital for daily commuters. But the local newspaper (a credible one) is the Maryland Independent, represented online by http://www.somdnews.com. If you check their archives, you will find one article there. The same goes for the Southern MD section of the Washington Post (another indication that Southern MD is part of the metro area, btw). Nowhere near the amount of what was published by the online tabloid blog which was quoted here. If you check it out, they are always desperate for news and provide a number to report some. Oh yes, they have a printed edition, which I will try to find this weekend.

Regardless, I never tried to defend this officer or push my opinion onto anybody. I am hoping for more credible information. We only know the side of the Mattias which is a very emotional one, understandably so. But I have to say I really like "Get a Real Dog"'s posts. That makes perfect sense to me. I have lived with a cop for the past 20 years (not a county, he is federal) and he has taught me to think a bit more rational when it comes to matters like that. I can be very emotional too at times, especially when it comes to children and animals. And no, neither my husband nor I know anybody in the Sheriff's Office here. We just live here. On the contrary, I have received a warning for speeding a couple of months ago, not happy, lol.

Chris - lol, I never knew that and I am sorry...I based my assumption off of what I have seen when I drive around...usually through route four and five...lol....I am just from Montgomery Co (and I grew up with alot of the snobery from here and afraid I have inherited some of it...sorry about that :-/). and the Charles County I drive through is usually the less developed section when I head to (yes :p) Charlotte Hall.

 Most of what I have gotten is from my mother...she has seen a few things I think.  I havent gotten a chance to go actually see what she has since she only commutes once a week but I should be driving down there this weekend or next....Mom is a Real Estate agent down there and I think that is how she ended up seeing the signs and talking to various people.

lol, I am proud to say I have never had to deal with a cop in Maryland....those darn VA cops though, they're mean.

VA? As an Virginia? Yes, the VA State Troopers have a reputation that they would give their own grandmothers a ticket, lol.

"VA? As an Virginia? Yes, the VA State Troopers have a reputation that they would give their own grandmothers a ticket, lol. "

Yep I (and my driving record" will attest to that. Hmm, a warning for speeding? I wonder what that would be like, I think I would be VERY happy. LOL
