The Tri-County Animal Shelter is the public pound here in Southern Maryland and serves all three of Southern MD counties (Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's). Their website is http://www.charlescounty.org/es/animalcontrol . But this is a kill shelter.

The Lucky Ones is a private organization of some dedicated people and have been around for a while. As a matter of fact, I had met one of the founding members years ago at our 1994 USA Sieger Show and if my memory serves me right, she used to have Fleisherheim dogs. They rescue dogs from the above public shelter and provide foster homes and spay and neuter clinics. Their website is  http://www.luckyones.com and they are located in Charlotte Hall which is just a few miles up the road from the Mattia's house.

The Humane Society of Charles County is located in Waldorf on Industrial Drive, almost across the street from my vet's 24 hour Emergency Clinic. That is also a private organization but I can not tell you if they have a kill policy. I would have to ask my vet. http://www.humanesocietycc.org

Sorry, but I do not know how to post clickable links here.

My Zorba was the love of my life, a real once in a lifetime dog.  When he passed away I HAD to start the process of finding a new pup right away because I couldn't stand the silence.   I am one of those people that doesn't feel whole without a dog.   You are very much mistaken if you think I loved my dog any less than you loved yours.  I'm sorry you had to wait 7 years, but I respect your feelings.  People mourn and cope with loss in different ways.

For the record funk man I am not this "seriously" person.  I live outside of Key West where my son is a Key West Police Officer.  My husband is a retired Homicide Detective with 32 years of service and experience.  Just because I raise the question of why people have not donated to this family you assume I am someone else.  I think this "seriously" person has no problem expressing his own opinions and does not need to hide under someone else's name.  Nor do I.  I am, however, wondering why no one has come forward and helped this family like everyone "says" they want to.

Uh someone would need to set up a fund or account to send the $ to.

Why can't you send it directly to the family.  They are listed.  So are the kennels and rescues that people have said they wanted to donate to.

I thought someone said something about a Paypal account. I would like to donate but think it would be nice if it was all done by a bunch of people with a note of some kind. One at a time seems like a handout. Just let me know whatsup and I will still be glad to chip in!

Yes it would be nice to do it that way.  I just don't see anyone stepping up and taking on the responsibility.

I dunno, somthing about this whole thing just doesnt feel right.  Maybe because I dont know these people personally, maybe because its the way some people are approaching the incident with a PETA like zeal.  Like when people are on the true path of ritiousness blinded by a cause, kinda like the crusades of the dark ages.  Somthing in my gut doesnt feel right about this whole thing, on either side of the fence.  I think if I were to watch a clip of the news showing the owners in flesh and blood I would be able to form a better understanding or opinion on the situation.  Nothing can replace your instint about a person like meeting them in person, so without that, I shouldnt really cast judgment either way.  Based on the information thus far, I can only go by what has been presented.

Echo you did kinda freak out on me in a scary kinda way.  I envisioned froth at the mouth with furious eyes and fast typing fingers.

Well I think all you need is an email address and you can send money for free but the recieving end will have to pay a small fee for recieving it. They can then transfer it to their bank account or leave it and use it from there for purchases via ebay or anything that will take Paypal.

If Echo knows these peoples email address, maybe we can just set a date and whoever wants to contribute just do it. There is a message box so we could all ad our own thoughts there I guess.

Any other ideas???
