Does OVC have a registry?  That was the other group they were being done at...I looked for one but couldnt find a registry on their site...alot of their dogs seem to be done there.

I dont think anyone was saying they were any better.  But the history and story sure is neat.

Yes, Ontario Veterinary College certifies hips. I don't know if their registry is public or not. The Hoofprint dogs are from Ontario, and that's why the hips for that part of the lineage are OVC certified rather than OFA.

The implication being the dogs have been certified by one organization or another.  No, OVC's registry is not public.  If the dogs hips have been certifed by OVC, then that's what it should say.  Instead on every page they show  "breeding stock" they proudly state next to the dogs' name "OFA".  They even state that all their breeding dogs have hips certiifed by OFA if they are over 2 years of age.  Does that mean they are breeding dogs under two?

i guess i'd like to mourn the memory of Rin Tin Tin and the less complicated era he symbolized. i miss the days when it seemed easier to determine what was "right" and having a good dog was part of that. i grew up with Rinty and the Littlest Hobo and other gsds and they always seemed to represent things that were good and healthy and "on the up and up". so, maybe this latest rinty isn't necessarily the "real thing", but he did represent an era that's gone, a simpler time that some of us lived thru and wish was still here, sometimes. damn, he just represented a very cool dog. sorry to see him go. jmo...

I liked Rin tin tin.  I like shows that I dont have to worry about if my children are going to repeat something in them.  I like shows that value character and personal integrity.  Too bad some angry ignorance ruined he post.  Didn't need to be that way.

Actually, they state that their dogs will be OVC or OFA rated before they are bred...not just OFA'd (OVC at 18 months I think, OFA at 24) They do state OVC on their website  next to some of the dogs names...and especially on the pedigrees.  I had never heard of OVC before I looked at their site.

Angusmom - I thought that was a great post...and very true.

Cate:  Look at the top of the page for their breeding females & males, also look at what is written next to each dogs name - OFA.  Only the first dog on breeding males page mentions OVC.   Here is a link to the breeding females page.

http://www.rintintin.com/Females

It's the same on the breeding males page, as well as on their previous litters page.  Next to each dog are the initials OFA.  If you go to the OFA website only 3 of the 7 breeding stock dogs have been screened (prelim and/or certified), and out of that 2 are good & one is fair.

I'm not going to beat this dead horse any longer.  I understand the original dog evokes wonderful memories of a bygone era. I also know a marketing ploy when I see one.  If someone wants to pay $3,500 for these dogs, well I guess that pretty much speaks for itself.

(Waits for inevitable snarky comments...)

LOL, don't listen to them Sunsilver!  I have found that just about every time I post something, someone has something negative to say about it!  Getting use to it, lol.  Some people wake up on the wrong side of the bed every morning!

sueincc, I followed what you were trying to say.  Marketing can do funny things to people can't it......
