Spook, where is your evidence that genetics are not involved?

by spook101 on 26 June 2007 - 15:06

First of all it's PURDUE. Secondly, this is an inconclusive study; you can't pick and choose sentences or phrases and call it a fact. Lastly, the only scientific study still trying to uncover a CONCLUSIVE pattern is the Scripps Scientific Institute in Florida. I believe it is a Dr. Pletcher.

You need to be able to comprehend what you read or you sound like a fool. Do you know the meaning of Conclusive?

Nice try though.

Since when are conclusions drawn before a study is finished? I have to agree with Spook on this one.

by Blitzen on 26 June 2007 - 15:06

Uh, who said these are conclusive studies?

by triodegirl on 26 June 2007 - 16:06

Didn't Echo mention bloat as something her breeding program was trying to eliminate? That would lead one to believe that it has already been determined that bloat is genetic.

I dont think anyone her is saying it is a fact that it is genetic...its just something a few may believe in...no one here is putting down anyone else from not removing dogs with bloat from their breeding program...it is just the theory of some.

And why are we arguing about it?  Does it really hurt that much to be a little extra careful?

And like Blitzen I feel if you are going to ask us for studies I think perhaps you shoul present some of your own...the problem with genetics is that it is all wide eyed speculation until specific alleles have been mapped to specific locations so nothing can be said factually whether it is or isnt a genetic factor - meaning that what you say is merely a personal truth and belief of yours as is our own statements...most genetics toda is based upon numbers and math - not upon science....we're moving forward in that but we have barely cracked the lid on it.

And not removing dogs with bloat would lead one to believe that it  has already been determined that Bloat is not genetic.  The correct answer is we dont know for sure so there is no answer so people are really free in this case to think what they feel will do the best by their breeding program.

No it doesn't hurt to air on the side of caution. Some people just like to irritate, because they can. Nobody said they can prevent bloat, certain people don't breed to dogs that have shown the signs of bloat, the same as a breeder that doesn't breed to dogs that have or carry on bad hips. It doesn't guarantee you wont get bad hips in  your pups but I doubt it hurts.
