Wo-man honey, lol.

Gotta walk before I run…just 2 years ago I was a regular at the AKC OB events. Long story, not so short…Andy lost his job when he was about 4.5 yrs old. His Dept. lost funding for their K9 unit (it’s a very small dept.) but this is something that has happened to a few depts. in my area (politics, politicians and budget cuts).

I totally lucked out and he ended up with me, through a friend of a friend thing (okay he was sent from heaven). Coming from AKC OB I had always wanted to do SchH and now had the perfect dog to learn the sport with (didn’t know anything about PSA or Ring at the time). So I joined a SchH club and got to work. He had a very good foundation in bitework but his OB and tracking sucked (I’m sure you know SchH tracking is very different from Police tracking) and he was very dirty in protection. So while he WAS a PDK9, apparently control was not on the top of their training list. SOOO we had a lot of work to do until we were ready to title. The first 6 months I only had him on a part time basis (hubby wouldn’t let me keep him at first, I took what I could get). That all began 2 years ago, in that time I got his BH, 1, 2 and 3…2 and 3 was two weeks apart just a couple months ago. Apparently, not very impressive to you, but it sure felt like the world to me.

Getting his 3 was my goal for the last two years. Now, what to do…I’ll probably go to the regionals, not with any high expectations, do it just to do it…after all I am still a newbie to the sport. But I admit I’m kinda itchin’ for something more now. I was thinking about asking my trainer if we can do some DPO training after regionals…I dunno, we will see. As far as I know there isn’t any Ring clubs in my State…I am also not interested in leaving my club. My dog is also 7 years old now, although he’s in outstanding shape and works like a dog half his age, I’m not sure how realistic it is to finish something new at this point.

Regards,

Melanie

Yes I remember. Not hard to forget. I wrote a pretty detailed description on Workingdog forum. The first day we did pretty well, until we got to the jump. At this point Buko started staring in the direction of the judge. This was the beginning. So he didn't jump, and my concern was not so much the jump, but if he was going to go and bite someone.

After the jumps in Mondio you go to the bitework, which was the Flee attack. The decoy was on the field and I managed to get Buko to the prep line, something that I wasn't sure he was going to do. He held himself, and waited for the command to attack, but wouldn't out, and wouldn't recall. I had the joy of chasing my dog around the decoy, where I was able to grab him by the back of the neck. Then we went back 40 meters as the same prep and start line for the flee was for the defense. Again he did very well until the recall. The face attack was a similar disaster, with my own addition, as I sent the dog early.

Anyone that has ever trialed a dog has, or will have days like this no matter how much you train. Buko is a difficult dog to trial, he does really well in training, and then in trial decides that killing the decoy is more appropriate. I think that I have fixed his obsession with this. We will see.

luvmidog, I am thinking that you do not trial dogs. However, anytime that you would like to come and put the suit on and help me train will be fine for me. Buko is a bit more on the driven side, and I do not have a decoy. : )

Here is something for you to consider, even though I was just kidding around with gsdfan. MR 1 is harder than Sch 3. Sorry, I will get there someday. : )

Cause it's the best of course Sue! We talk about more than just Schutzhund here. I'm not all that into the sport myself. Allot of the other training boards are going going gone, or just really suck. We get so many more posts here it's not even funny. We have allot of overflow from other boards I am sure. Just not all of them post. I have seen Jeffs posts on different boards, I guess he finally made it here. LOL

I am in Colorado, and he is a Ludo son. There is some pressure for me to title this dog, as I like those guys and the dog should get a title at some point. LOL  He is a bit nutty, as I get some really great performances out of this dog, and some really interesting disasters as well. Whatever, he is not lacking in anything, that is for sure.

He is a little over the top at times. He is a dog that corrections actually get him into drive, and then he bites me. I am not complaining, as I really do not like boring dogs.

Whatserface really missed out, as the real fun was at his first trial when he decided to break his down during the intro to the judge and jump on the scorers table. LOL

THAT was a truely great time to pick stuff up to make fun of me with. I was sick, and was afraid that it was gonna come out one end or the other, on the change of positions, I thought he was going to come after the deputy judge who was sitting behind me. AND as an additional bonus, I had to bend down to grab the retrieve object. I was so sure I was going to burst ! ! ! !  !
