above the message area is 2 rows of icons click on the 6th one from the right and that is were you put your image url.

I clicked on the yellow box with mountains in it, and it makes a blip noise, but nothing happens - what is supposed to happen?

you probably have something installed or turned on thats blocking popups, you should get a popup that you put the url in
