Sorry I am pretty late into this, but I find this quote to be so true.

Quote:

Dog looks perfectly healthy to me. Dog is probably tied out to do what he is supposed to do, alert the family when people are in the area. It is funny how people are so quick to judge others with zero information.

My dog dumps her water bucket every day and hasn't died yet.

OK, I really only wanted the water bucket sentance. I have worked at boarding facilitys and I swear, at least 60% of the dogs go out of their way at least once to try and kill themselves during a stay. Dumping the water bucket is a big one. Peeing in it is another good one.

Geographic area- no excuse

Chaining animals- no excuse.

Very big now.

Maybe you should chain yourself and your children outside.

If you don't have the proper humane way of keeping animals, don't have them. Give them to homes who can. Ditto.

I don't mean to be snotty or mad. It is just wrong. That is something I did when I was in High School. Now I realize that it is not humane.

But, I just feel for this ad, anyone who keeps his animal like this should not have it or be selling pups. The seller should send in head shot or something.

I just don't believe in it , but evidentaly, people have their own ideals of what is normal.

I don't think that people are defending the right to tie out a dog.  I think it is more of a cultural issue.  Some place in the world do not see animals in the same light as you or I.

Look back in history at the things we find odd.  Some cultures add rings to their necks and they get longer as the years pass.  Chinese Emperialist  would put wraps and tight shoes on children ( I believe girls) until they form nubs on the ends of their legs.  The thought was that they didn't need feet because they were to be waited on entirely. Tribes all over the world would alter their bodies.  Some women would peel the skin off their lips.

This all sounds crazy doesn't it?  "Well that stuff is in the past."

Not really.  I wonder what some cultures think about the people in the world that have silicon implanted into their chests.  How about the people that get their lips injected?  In some cultures it is just plain wierd to take a knife to your face every day.  How about the people that suck the fat out of their asses and inject it into their cheeks?

I know the hHindus out there love the way a cow is prepped for veal.  Some cultures see the dog as edible.

I am not defending , I'm just not going to make a judgement when there are more important issues out there.  Sure the dog can hang himself, but off the tie out he may lap up the neighbors anti-freeze.  That looks like a ritzy neighboorhood in the picture.  Maybe there is a rule in his neighborhood association that prohibits fencing.  Just a thought.

we really are going to looked upon as strange by later cultures aren't we.  You've hit the nail on the head with that one, it's amazing what certain societies deem acceptable.

Holy cow! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Where I grew up this was a way of keeping your dog in your yard when you were not home so that it did not get shot on someone elses property. Young dogs for the most part did not live in the house. They lived outside. I am not sure how you see this as cruel, I am sure that this dog never has lived in air conditioning, and is used to his surroundings.

This thought process, like the one above confuses me. Look at the surroundings, where do you think a home depot is to buy a kennel??? How is it cruel? Maybe the house is just as hot.

I never saw one of our dogs care one bit that they were on a chain. The reason they were on a chain is because they could get out of the kennels. So this was the best way to keep them.

No one should think that just because a dog is on a chain that the dog is abused. Not like anyone I knew kept the dog there all day, just when they were asleep, or gone.

Why was it wrong for Mattia's to tie out Max on his front porch where he was shot and killed by a lawman, but it's OK to tie out a dog in an area where there appears to be to be no shade, a lean-to made from construction debris and a filthy water bucket ( assuming that is a water bucket)?

Blitzen

Please don't bring that thread into this one.  I have not, and will not comment on one of those worthless threads.  Should we bust the poster, who put a picture of their dog hanging out a window, for not having the dog in a crate or seatbelt, because of the risk of injury?

I don't own a tie-out and never have.  I have never used one either.  Some people think that a pinch collar is inhumane.

I have seen kids on harnesses.

I have seen people use cattle prods on their dogs.  Some people even think that it is inhumane to use an e-collar on a dog.  Hell, we stopped using electric on prisoners, and now we give them a lethal injection.  We used to all gather at the town hall to see the hangings for Pete's sake.

Stop world hunger or cure cancer first.  Then worry about a Turkish dog on a tie-out.

Matthews 3662 and DesertRanger, Agree with you totally, the muslim religion treats its women and its dogs in much the same way, why do they bother keeping a dog if they consider them unclean. Lets hope that if one of their children ever goes missing they wont expect one of our police dogs to go and track them down. Where I live in Britain there are more muslims than christians and the women walk two paces behind their men, and all of them are wearing the veils yet we re not allowed in stores etc with hooded jackets or motorbike helmets because of so called security threat! Crazy world! Lissa

The ego's of some people never cease to amaze me. To me the ultimate definition of an ego is when someone condemns what another person is doing and hold their opinion as "all knowing" when, in fact, they no nothing. This happens so much on this board it is ridiculous. People with their opinions about the whole Max incident, condemning a man for a situation in which they have no knowledge of fact. A man posts an ad showing a perfectly healthy dog tied out in a poor country. The racist barrage on this thread, that has nothing to do with dogs. All the "do-gooders" jump up and state how terrible these people are for keeping their dog this way.

Guess what, I tie my dogs out. Better send the lynch mob. Don't ask me anything about when, how, or why I tie my dogs out, just tell me I am terrible for it and call AC, SPCA, and PETA. THE ABUSE MUST STOP!!!!! But I will tell you anyway. I tie my dogs out for short periods of time( usually a few weeks), at certain developmental periods, for dogs with certain temperament traits. . The main reason is by tying a dog out it raises a dogs level of suspicion, defense drive, and aggression. If I tie dog out and they bark at every coyote, fox, raccoon, person, etc and scare them off, it also boosts their confidence. We have posted many, many pictures and video of our dogs. They are healthy, loved, and well trained.

I try not to let this kind of shit bother me, but it makes me sick. No wonder the rest of the world dislikes us so much. We have all the comforts and opportunities yet we still feel the need to ostracize some poor guy in Turkey. You know nothing about this man, how he treats his animals, his level of income (although I think we can all see what that probably is which makes me think even higher of him that he keeps his dogs looking healthy and at a proper weight), or what is culturally acceptable in his nation. Maybe the poor guy does need some money, so what? Do we know why he needs the money? Does he have a sick child? Maybe he has a daughter he wants to send to college in the US. (Be very fearful of that, she might be a terrorist)

If someone wants to feel good about themselves or feel they need to hold themselves higher than others; go do something that gives you credibility. If your a breeder, breed a dog that makes it to the WUSV. If you are a trainer, train a dog to place well in regional or national events. If your a K9 handler, use your dog to make a felony apprehension. If you are a show person, go win the Westminster dog show.  Until you do these things, shut up and quit telling people how you know so much, and how much better you are than everybody else.

Who do you people think you are?
