Second, I just wanted to share that my professor in Psych 101 said that statistically a third of the class does or will have a mental disorder through the course of their life.  Not picking on anyone... just may be enlightening some.

Heck, some people pass off the fear period as an excuse in itself. Certainly a lot of dogs who end up real strong go through some weird behaviours that would enable them to get washed out in some programs...that's certainly up for debate. However I like to think the breeder should be less forgiving than the trainer.

I was out looking for my dog !!   4pack,  I do still have that responsibility !!!

amysue,  Yes it can happen to any dog,  Even with Males,  Some go through it some do not.  But be careful and only whisper that here or you'll be bludegened to death by the Rat Pack.  Ohhh and don't take my word for any of this go talk to some HONEST Trainers regarding the weird stage they will happy to answer your questions without killing you for asking.   :-)

sueincc  Your right She is an Honorable Person who would NEVER make up such crap !!     I never said she would, or did.

It was someone else who was Making up Crap !   That would be the recipient of the Silver Spoon this Xmas,  can't give it away,  You'll know come xmas time !!

Puputz,  You make some good comments for sure !!

The following questions are for the RAT PACK ONLY   I know the answers of any RESPECTABLE Breeder !!

How many of you actually TAKE THE TIME to answer peoples questions,  To ask questions of them to find out what they're TRUE needs, wants, desires, expectations are ???????

How many of you require people to come to your place and meet ALL of your dogs before a purchase is completed ???????

How many of you ACTUALLY stay in touch with your buyers ????????????

How many of you are willing to spend 3 weeks and more than 800.00 in printing costs, newspaper advertising, and countless hours of lost sleep to help a client find a dog when it became lost ?????????

How many of you answer the phone at 2am to answer to a worried owner who's dog got into something and has fallen ill ??????????? (the dog turned out to be fine but did encourage her to take him in to emergency vet for vomiting and diahrhea)

How many of you have extended YOUR COURTESY to a perspective buyer,  who says "well I'm gonna look around a bit",  how many of you have replied "well even if you go with another breeder if you ever have any questions,  Please don't hesitate to call and ask" ????????

NO I am not a saint,  But you know what I'm also NOT a Cow that belongs to this Lynch Mob RAT PACK,  who is giving every GSD Breeder a BAD rap of being a bunch of freaking PIT BULLS !!   Is it really TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH to ask of you all to just be Respectfull ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

For those considering joining this board to seek the advice and knowledge that ALL of you DO posess,  I hope it's not too much to ask.

You do know that YOU started somewhere too  or were you truly born with all of this knowledge of the GSD just imprinted ????????

Consider it that's all I and others are asking of ANY of you,  Is just to consider posting with some respect.   And if you think you can not because the TOPIC Annoys you,  Then just don't post.

4pack

I guess since I am unknowingly a part of this "Rat Pack" I will answer...

The following questions are for the RAT PACK ONLY   I know the answers of any RESPECTABLE Breeder !!

How many of you actually TAKE THE TIME to answer peoples questions,  To ask questions of them to find out what they're TRUE needs, wants, desires, expectations are ???????  I do, but I have only bred one litter of GSD'd in 15 yrs of owning them.

How many of you require people to come to your place and meet ALL of your dogs before a purchase is completed ???????  I did this as well. They also told me in detail what they planned for the pup and what experience they had in GSD's before hand.

How many of you ACTUALLY stay in touch with your buyers ????????????  1 buyer out of 3 stayed in touch. The others chose not to. I still have their contact info but I will not hunt them down, if they have no questions or issues.

How many of you are willing to spend 3 weeks and more than 800.00 in printing costs, newspaper advertising, and countless hours of lost sleep to help a client find a dog when it became lost ????????? I haven't had a client lose a dog but honestly, hell no I wouldn't shell out my families money for their mistake. I would do foot work but not give my cash.

How many of you answer the phone at 2am to answer to a worried owner who's dog got into something and has fallen ill ??????????? (the dog turned out to be fine but did encourage her to take him in to emergency vet for vomiting and diarrhea) Well, my pups are over a year and I did receive a couple calls  from 2 people who purchased pups. One was concerned when the 12 week old pup didn't have both testicles descended. She was going to neuter the dog anyway but I wanted her to keep in touch, so I would know if it ever came down. Another talked to me daily for weeks after, asking any question about training, food, and how to introduce her adult female to her new pup. I haven't had any emergency issues and I hope my buyers are smart enough to call the vet before they call me if their dog is ill.

How many of you have extended YOUR COURTESY to a perspective buyer,  who says "well I'm gonna look around a bit",  how many of you have replied "well even if you go with another breeder if you ever have any questions,  Please don't hesitate to call and ask" ????????  I always answer my phone if I am home and I hear it ring. I will answer any question asked of me by a dog person, if it benefits me or not. I enjoy talking dogs/puppies/training to anybody who will listen. I'm not a dog salesmen. I have a full time job that pays the bills and dogs are my "hobby". I have responded to numerous private emails from people on the DB asking about other kennels and where to find certain lines and types of dogs. This did nothing to line my own pocket, I did it to help others, people I have never met.

4pack commendable answers !     funny isn't it that I can give credit where credit is due ??   Seriously I found your answers to be very honest !    Too bad no one else wants to Fess UP.  Particularly those who are so QUICK to Point they're fingers,  sueincc,  oops did I say that out loud ??

As a person who has been in the sport for the past 15 years, titled the two dogs I have trained for schutzhund, been a gsd fanatic since age 8, and have a high IQ, I offer my non-breeder take on the queations. Breeder follow up can often be important as an indication of breeder committment, especially if something goes wrong (illness, injury, getting lost,etc.). But, most important to me as a non-breeder is the QUALITY of the dogs the breeder produces. People have other resources they can go to "when things go wrong," including, but hopefully not only, this board. NOTHING can "fix" crappy breeding, though. That is why I look at breeders who are themselves involved in training and titling in schutzhund, if they are claiming that they produce dogs suitable (much less good) for schutzhund. How else is a breeder really to have any idea what they are using as breeding stock, much less what they are producing? I expect their dogs to be titled, as an indication, basic at best, of their breed-worthiness. NO, schutzhund is not the end all and be all, but it is the besat thing we have. But, you can be pretty certain that a fear-biter is probably going to produce fear-biters and is probably the product of a fear-biter. So, when you see that type of temperament on a training or trial field, it speaks volumes about the breeder and the breeding program that produced it. Those who disdain schutzhund as a proving ground for their breeding program should likewise NOT sell the products of their program to people who they know either want, or may at some point, take that dog to a schutzhund club to train. It only leads to embarassment. If one is simply breeding pets to produce pets, then for pity's sake, be candid about that with potential buyers, and sell only to pet homes. I attended the Calderon seminar and saw the conduct of the dog in question. It was NOT a mater of a second fear period, though it could be related to the heat cycle. Oddly, though, club members indicated that the behavior was typical, rather than an aberration. I would think that Dean Calderon is knowledgable enough to know what he was seeing, as well. He clearly didnlt think it was a fear-stage, as he distinctly counselled against the dog ever doing bite-work. Sue, Karyn had a puppy at the seminar, too. Do you know anything about its breeding?
