Before schutzhund dies, the morbidly obese women who try to participate will croak first.

by AKVeronica60 on 24 July 2007 - 16:07

I think that the more negative elements of Schutzhund are more vocal, particularly on this board (if the naysayers ARE doing Schutzhund).  I am very happy with my "Schutzhund family"-- my club.  A better bunch of caring and goal oriented adults (with one seriously GOOD 14 year old trainer!) would be hard to find.  Our club is very fair with everyone.  I did belong to another club before this one, and it just wasn't a good fit for myself or them.  You have to look around and find a club that fits you.  Currently, there are only two protection dog clubs of any kind in all of Alaska--USCA Schutzhund training clubs, though a third Schutzhund club is attempting to form in a not-so-nearby town, and our club very much hopes that they are successful in getting going!  If you can't find one that suits you--try to start one.  There are surely others in your area who feel like you do.

I think it is dog legislation in the expanding cities and the shrinking areas available for training that will end Schutzhund and other protection sports--- if it happens.

I agree with Working Dogs about the e-coffee sessions statement above, except some are bored househusbands as well, LOL.

I have showline and she is awesome in action... I have called around to clubs that upon learning she is a showline were immedietly derogatory... one of which people I contacted is now secretly breeding and selling sowlines with her friends that would not accept showlines into thier club lol...... You will find people of all kinds shapes and sizes in the dog world... Me? I will stick with the few that love the dogs and are here for them and can be friendly.

VERY GOOD   flipfin, and doggie2.Is'nt it funny how much nonsense energy is given to the BS regarding show lines ,working lines.I got so sick of it all that i just took over 1 year off-including NOT bothering to enter my one dog in the shows either.Too much politics in the show part, too much of the other BS with the sch trials ,what is it all coming to?I beleive you guys are VERY ACCURATE in seeing the death of this sport altogether

beetree,

I only ever taught one dog to do the flipfinish, she was special and just had a knack for it. Must mention she was half work, half show, yikes! I do love working dogs, I always have. I respect the people who can train them to Sch3 and make a good, well rounded dog out of the high drive crazy's. But my lovely wife has opened my own elitist eyes to the fact that one size doesnt fit all and we all have different goals. She is all about the "total GSD" and to her that means something different than to others. But should I attack her and tell her she is dumb because her "total GSD" may not be exactly what I think it should be? No, of course not. And that was the point of my post, she loves GSD's, I love GSD's and that is all that matters. We can fight about color, pigment, saddle or nor, working etc, or we can spend our time loving each other and helping others learn to love this wonderful breed as much as we do. That is how you "pass the torch" you get others to love what you love, but you let them decide the reasons why they want to love it, not force them to love what I love. In doing that, you will create a GSD lover for life. The reality is that the left wing crazies dont distinguish between working GSD's and "show" GSD's and we all could lose if we dont band together. Reminds me of a guy who visited a mental hospital/prison and noticed that they had only one guard fo 20 inmates. When asked if he was scared they would unite and ovetake him he said "insane people won't unite" I find that interesting.....

I disagree with the working dog's demise in the USA. It's getting stronger within the Police Departments.

If anything all activities will be banned except for Military and Police Depts. <<<<   I see this happening. But, there will be no way to control it efficiently. JMO.

As far as the AKC WDS, it will be done and over with (washed out an failed once again) for this trial period. Then we will see the change I mentioned above.

I believe the reason why is our WDS dogs are showing up better health, beauty and brains... compared to the Show Rings. This makes AKC look bad as a whole on a National Show Level and they don't like that. Amazing what Politics will do. JMO.

 WorkinDog,
You'd be amazed at what so called decent breeders and trainers have written emails to me about their own brethrens whom they sit down to have beers in the evening and discuss dogs.. If I show you the content it'll take your pants off figuratively speaking. So lets not go on a witch hunting drive here ok.

Vikram,

I wouldn't be surprised at all but I also wouldn't trust your word as far as I could throw my own voice. I've seen the way you behave on here and made up my mind pretty damn quickly that you are nothing but a stirrer that ocassionally attempts to look helpful to cover your other posts.

AKVeronica60,

Indeed you are correct, except I probably meant to mean that the males that do it act more like girlies than men.

Hail the GSD in all it's shapes and forms, except, well, ........................................................

BabyEagle4U,

I respect your opinion, but time bears out truth. If the current trend continues you will see an end to schutzhund, not the breed.

That said, police are going to Malinois more than shepherds and black labs for the drug dogs. I am not familiar with WDS but assume it is a different "working dog" association with its own trials. If so I hope you all take a lesson from the Schutzhund community or else you too will suffer the same fate

Flipfinish

Although I understand the purpose of your post, are you not essentially doing the same thing?  Don't equate this board to the sport of Schutzhund.  The arguments that go on at this board are not seen at the clubs.  Sure, there are occassional disagreements, but not like on here and not the same topics.  I have never been to a club where people were telling others that their dogs suck and they shouldn't breed.  To be honest, if you have a mediocre dog, usually the owner will acknowledge this and quit or will stick with it and the members of the club usually give people like this credit because they know the difficulty of training a dog without the nessasary tools.

I don't know how you can think that you are not doing the same thing as any of these "people" who are on here bitching at one another.  I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but if you are trying to help, how can you come on here and ridicule the sport?  You made false, or ignorant, claims about training with a club.  I don't know what club you trained with for a day, but I have said this before.  Nobody goes out on the field and does the Obedience pattern every single time they are out there.  The helper is not always in blind 6.  Have you ever heard of hot blinds?  Or did the club that kicked you to the curb not teach you this the week you were out there?

I am not in total disagreement with you.  I think a lot of the bickering on here could go, but if you look at the arguments, very few pertain to training and the sport of SCH.  I think an intelligent individual could determine the difference between knowledgable people and those that have an agenda.

Please don't think that Sch will die because of a few people on a board.  Schutzhund USA can sink their own ship without the help of this boards arguments.
