So I watched the videos and am curious as to how many think that this is an unusual response???? Most peoples IDEA of a balanced dog responds this way. As far as taking the videos off, who cares???? This response is fairly common, and if he was trained for sport even more so.

I have read on another thread how people "KNOW" that their dog will protect them, well, that video should be left up as an example of what most dogs are gonna do.

I really doubt that my GSD would have much more of a response IN THAT SITUATION. My Mal is a spaz, but I doubt that he would do much either, except want to play.

What you people are flipping about is pretty much normal.

The issue isn't whether the confusion/avoidance/lack of response - or whatever you want to call it -  that Agar's dog displayed is typical.  This isn't about training or nerves or anything else.

What we're talking about is the perception she wishes to create in order to deter a known dangerous person who has already harmed her, which is that her dog is highly civil and will defend her to the bitter end, regardless of whether that is actually the case.  That is a direct personal consideration that should not have been "exposed" by ANYONE on such a scale.

Yes, normal but twisted to make her dog sound less than desirable. The knowledgeable will know with a bit of work, he should come out fine in PP work instead of the sport aspect. From what I hear, he already has.Regarding the videos, her permission was not asked and they were used in a derogatory manner. Her safety has been an issue and pointing that out on a public forum probably wasn't a good thing.

This is complete shit. While I am extremely sorry she has a situation, and please, get a gun and all the permits and teaching. But too many people are under misconceptions of what their dogs are. You want to talk about honesty in the breed??? There it is. Most trainers I know stopped argueing about this stuff long ago, because the publics basic perception is that the dog is gonna protect.

You put a dog in a situation like that, and your response that is positive is very low. How many people here actually think they have a civil dog??? And under what definition are you saying that your dogh is civil.

AGAIN, sorry for your situation.

I raise my hand. I have a civil dog! We are working on balancing that out.

by Jeff Oehlsen on 26 July 2007 - 21:07

What is your definition for civil??? Why would you balance that out for PP???? Makes no sense to me.

It doesn't have to make sense to you Jeff, now does it? There are plans for this dog and I never said he was just for PP. Besides he is 10 months old, I'd like to see more prey, less seriousness at his age. Seems he just spit out the womb like this though. Thank God he is level headed.

Jeff    read the other post about removing the videos. This is not about the dog  its about the post and who made it and how it was done.....agar was bombed and she could care less what TH or Aimee said   Get with the programmmm    we are not discussing the dog    its the violation of agar's privacy and out of a visit to a club she wishes she never went to .....this thread from Flip is about the travesties of clubs of schutzhund,,,,not agars dog...

4pack,

I think you ment to say Baden has fight drive and looks at people as big prey bunnies.

He is not "civil"; not yet anyway.

Jeff---No need to comment on fight drive. I already know your opinion on that.

Big prey bunnies, LOL.  I like that!  I had a pup, who at five weeks charged at some visitors coming into the back yard area barking in a deep little voice, trying to run them off.  Of course, she melted when they started petting her.  She and her owner are in our club, so I'm watching her development with great interest.  She has very high prey drive.
