Actually, Do Right, I inquired on the one you are talking about, and he is good with his own family and their children.  He has some civil, so they don't want the dog to go to a complete novice, was my understanding from the response to my email.

Do right I happen to agree with everything you said in this post and I'm not gonna email you and tell you but say it right here.  Now move over and pass me a helmet.

Do right and fear no one  Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!  I have wanted to say that for a long time now!  My dog is a Champion right now, and the only further thing I plan on going for is his Grand!  I do not plan on putting any kind of protection titles on him what so ever!  I cannot understand either why everyone on this board is so gung ho on getting working titles etc. on our GSDs in order to breed them.  As long as I have his hips, cardio, and elbows done, etc.  he will be fine the way he is!  Thanks again for your post.

I believe that the German Shepherd dog is so very intelligent, agile yet strong, gentle and thoughtful, loyal unto death that he can do any kind of work asked of him from family protector to guarddog, from best buddy to go fishing with to a great babysitter for the kids.  Why would anyone want to limit this breed to show or schutzhund?  My boy seems to sense cancer in people - would love to investigate this more.  My girl is a natural born babysitter.  I can see training the pups to help the disabled or make a widow feel safer at night alone.  They are a breed that stands alone yet can stand with the best of any other breed.

Do Right said >>Millions of dogs are bred without titles.  How many Beagles have titles?  How many Chihuahua's?<<

I have seen beagles used in police work and chiuahuas used in search and rescue. They are just awesome.  You can see how the lack of working titles in the pedigree adds to the character of these fantastic working dogs.

Do right just loves a good "heated discussion".

Here is my take on what Do right and others started about dogs with our without titles. WHO CARES? If you know the breed, the lines, etc then you can make an educated guess on what a given puppy will be one day. In the end it is a crap shoot with puppies no matter who the parents are. In my area there are several Bastin vom Kokeltal (sp?) puppies running around who are weak under the stick and won't bark if you step on them. Does that mean Bastin is a bad sire? No. Does it mean the dam was bad? No. It means puppies are a crap shoot. Even two perfectly healthy humans can throw a unhealthy child for no apparent reason. Saying a puppy is going to be awesome just cause mom or dad was is a HUGE mistake. And let me say this while I am at it, NO PUPPY IS WORTH MORE THAN $1000!!! I AM SICK OF $2000 puppies! Who pays that much for a roll of the dice? My wife got an email from someone who wanted $7500 for a puppy! Crack anyone?!!!!

Titles, especially these days, mean very little. A Schutzhund title shows more about the grit and determination of the owner than the dog.

I bred my untitled couch potato (Baron Vom Ulf Haus) no titles mind you to a half show/half working un-titled bitch. Why? Because I wanted good, balanced, lower drive GSD's that I could put out in the public for $500-$750 and make people happy. Funny too because 3 turned out that way, but the pick male (my stud fee) has more drive and aggression than most high end workling dogs I have had! He is about to be on his way to a police department for a narcotics dog. Did you hear that? A 6 month old male GSD, from UN-titled parents (grandparents are all Sch 3 though), from West German Showlines, going to a police department, for $800. Are you kidding me? What if everyone stopped treating their puppies like solid gold and started getting them to good homes? Despite your arguments, lowering the outrageous prices of GSD's would probably help the breed because people who are "in it for the money" would stop breeding GSD's just because they can. Think about it, how many people know they can make a quick buck by selling "the best GSD" or "National Level Dog" or "Promising Show Puppy"? Take away their ability to survive and they stop doing it, and you get better dogs as a result because the people who truly love the breed will know what and how to breed for something more than money. It is simple economics.....didnt anyone go to school?

I can not believe how many emails I have received saying "Thank you for saying how I feel" and similiar words of endorsement.  I expected to be beat to a pulp by the usual suspects (triodegirl, hope I am the blue one, it's my favorite color and matches my eyes ;-)

I hate it when everyone agrees with me.  Where the heck is Don Corleone with a bit of humorous wisdom, Schutzhund Babe with her degree in thinking out of the box, Seriously and Spook101 (probably the same rather intelligent but contrary guy), and all ya'll that have "working" and/or "Dawgs" in your screen name?  Surely someone who is all about titles, wants to be the "red" guy and kick my butt for my stand on titles being "okay, but not all that" when it comes to deciding which dogs to breed.

If you don't answer the call, I will hang up.  Do you really want me to go away?  Think how bored you will be on Sunday

AKVeronica:  I too have seen the working Beagles.  There actually are thousands, if not millions of Beagles working for their hunter owners, but very, very few are titled.  Never seen the Chihuahua's with any kind of jobs other than circus performers and jewelry for celebrities.  The most courageous and protective dog I have ever owned was a male Chihuahua.  Pee Wee was not afraid of anything, including me.  For ten years I was not allowed to touch my wife in his presence.  I didn't mind it though.  Who wants to cuddle anyway
