SchBabe..Good luck in your endeavors. No one will laugh if you try, wish more people were like you and want to give their club a hand. I would go to some of the helper seminars offer by USA, DVG and WDA you will see helpers at all skill levels at the seminar and also listen to you club helper.  You don’t have to be a power house and have incredible strength to work dogs correctly. If you have proper technique and good foot work you will do fine. One person I always enjoy to watch videos of  and listen to him speak and attend our regional helper seminars is Gary Parks, he is a prime example that you do not have to be big to move dogs. Gary in his prime was 5’6 and 150-160lbs and he could move 100lb rotties and GSD at will, because of his technique.  Best of luck.

There have been women at the helper seminars I've watched.  No one laughed at them.  Some did a fine job, and were certified.

Your main helper would be greatly helped himself, if you could do the lighter dogs, and then he could do the heavier dogs.  Just spelling him on some of the helper work would help to rest him up between dogs.  That's what our helpers do...our club is very lucky to have three good regular helpers, and even a couple of other guys that will don the sleeve if needed.  I'd do helper work, but I'm just too slow.

Go for it!  At an old club I belonged to, I got a bit irritated because some days I was the only helper there.  I like to work my dogs too.  The worst thing was watching the gals sit under a tree gabbing along while all the guys loaded the equipment and set up the blinds.

I guess I would like to send a message out to the rest of the ladies that won't be doing helper work.  Please help your club out in any fashion.  Whether it is always being in the group for obedience or just shooting the gun. Youcan be a fake judge for everyone to check into.  You can make sure all the equipment is available.  You can help set up and take down the blinds.  Hell you can even pick up some beer for your helper and the rest of the club, even if you don't drink it.  Do whatever, just don't sit on your ass until it is your turn to work a dog.

Don: Best advice I've heard all year!!!!!!

A friend of mine , visited , last year , a club , and all the women , sat under a tree , in chairs, and gossiped about all the rest of the club members, and criticised all the new members as they tried to learn how to present their dogs to the head trainer...hE

For a girl... lady..... women.... I've caught my fair share of dogs including my own who's taken many people down(including myself).

P.S. I hate the women that gossip... when I first became involved in this sport my dog was laughed at and so was I... funny how the table turns when the Hens realise someone with natural ability and talent could pass them up one day esp. since they never care to learn.

Lucky for me I'm in a group with mostly women and they are all amazing... it's the first group I've been happy with in a LONGGGGGGGGGGG LONNNGGGGGG time!

Our club isn't too terrible, we all pitch in and grab a blind for set up and take down.  At least we don't have to move the darn a frame anymore!  that was hard for two of us gals to do!

We've got an interesting mix of people, I like it.

Hey... no more barking... we would like to see pictures of lady trainers and lady helpers (I think lady... would be too much for Yvette...) You can see Yvette though, just check out her dog first....

if i were in better shape physically and a little younger i'd love to learn helper work.  i just don't know if my back could hold out!  some

I've taken a bite or two and done some puppy stuff, but that's the extent of it!

There's a couple of dogs in a our club that I wouldn't mind working, the seasoned dogs that aren't too big.  :)

Then there's a couple that I wouldn't!  ie:  the 125 pound rottie!   even our regular helpers will draw straws for him.  :)

I enjoyed doing helper work.  At the club where I started in Germany there was apparently one gal that must have

been laughing at me when I tripped over something (grace was never part of my name)  Anyway the training director made her

get into the helper pants, then he brought out his police dog - a large energetic rottweiler.  I asked about it when I saw the dog but

got the don't ask look.  The next sound you heard was the new helper hitting the sheet metal blind with a loud thunk.  I still wonder

exactly what was said to get volker so ticked off.  Any way my digression aside, with proper technique you can move even the big dogs better than you would expect.  It is a lot of fun, try it you'll like it.
