I didnt quote anyone , that I am aware of , what are you referring to.? unless you mean YR ? I have had gsd's for 30 years and train horses...The training of horses is quite alot llike a german shepherd....I dont do sports with either...but I sure have collected valueable knowledge from watching and reading...and handling over 6 shephers  in my lifetime....I have shepherds out of both german lines and American lines...most of my shepherds have gone on to the place of peace and final abode.

Well now the story begins to unfold even further....knowing now this is at least the 5th home Tino's had makes all the more reason to believe that whatever is going on with this dog is too much for at least the last 4 homes he's been with, thus telling me his 5th, 6th 7th and so on owners will not be able to change him.

The pedigree may have nice dogs in it but I have to agree with Luvmidog in what she stated as that's not enough to say this dog would be suitable for shutzhund.  I always thought the perfect dog for the sport was one that was not nervy, very confident, clear headed and stable in all aspects.  It doesn't sound from what was described that Tino has portrayed any of these traits the sport looks for to be complimenting.  He sounds like he lacks the confidence in order to help him be stable.

The lady YellowRose described who placed her dog with a truck driver would also be an ideal match for Tino.  Someone in that type of situation may be his best shot at his last home.  I still think the rescue is her best bet since most people doing rescue won't take the chance in placing a dog in a home that wouldn't be safe for both.  Then again, a rescue also is reluctant to take dogs that have these types of issues because they know it's gonna take a very special home to place them in and that could take a long time.

Why act suprised about how many homes he has been in? If you had followed this from the beginning you have read how many homes. If you havnt, perhaps you shouldnt jump on the bandwagon until you have all the facts by reading prior posts. I did not "Oh my GOd   now you tell us    been to    4 homes"  If you would have read the beginning of the whole topic of Tino ie " I need advice" you would have all the information

This subject has jumped more than one thread. Also it just wont die. How long has this been dragging on now? You expect us to recall every word? LOL Your not that important.

I think most people have given up on this saga. Maybe we will see a news link about it later down the road. Who knows?

Shandra, most people here have jobs plus their dogs/training. Maybe don't read every single message and scan the subject lines for those that catch their eye. I thought I had read your threads well and didn't get that there were four homes. It's a LOT of information on these threads. It's hard to retain every detail. JMO

On this thread you said you contacted
"both of the former owners."    you havae refered to them as being two men....we know there was a breeder , you said you were going to contact....we cant count or that is two previous owners in by book.......dont know who the breeder was or if it was the previous owner...I and all the rest here took that to mean

just a couple of owners   not 4......at 2 12 years old and having issues , thats a lot of people , that if he was worth his salt,,,,he'd still be with the last one or he wouldn't have just been  $500.00

iF it was stated on another thread, I can only answer from this thread , as it kinda speaks for itself,,,,like Don said   we only can go on by what you disclose....and you havent had him long enough to tell us much...

Sorry for the confusion...It still doesnt change anything with      woff  woff!

I have read both the thread on Tino....

I am sorry you have to make this hard decision-it sounds like you have made up your mind to re-home him.....the only advice I want to give is that he should be neutered before he goes anywhere.  Someone has to make the responsible decision and get him fixed-he should have never been bred, not just by you but by the others-and if you give him to someone else who know what they will end up doing with him-keep him in a kennel and breed away!! I know it costs money-but this blood line needs to be stopped-or we'll be reading about some other dog and we'll see that its his son or grandson.

And you stated you wanted a dog to protect you or whatever....what about your female?  What are you going to do with her?  If you keep her won't she be enough?  I could bet that if someone was trying to attack you she would not just sit back and let it happen.  I have a showline dog who is very mellow-has NEVER growled at anyone before until we went to the river and a group of guys walked by one by one and he just sat by my side and watched didn't even stand up-until this one guy came by who didn't even look our way and my God he about drug my arse across the rocks!!  He did not like this guy at all-I would have never known anything was wrong with him-he didn't give me the creeps just another guy.  I had put the leash on just in case thank God...lol --then later they were floating by and he ignored all the guys except that one-he sat up and stared at him as he floated by, ears erect, that glare that gsd's get, and that low rumble..

So they will protect you even if they aren't outwardly aggressive all the time.  Maybe she will be enough.

Good luck with your choices and with your son.  I know thats a hard row to hoe.

Brandoggy- The neutering was a good point to bring up but she already bred Tino from what I understood and the litter is due any time now.  But definately now he should be neutered; can't change what's already done but can change the future.

I apologise for sounding snappy, I was just frustrated. I am working on arrangements for Tino in a new home. We have been talking, everything is in the open so this should be resolved soon. How soon I am not sure of but as soon as possible.

As far as the litter due this weekend, They will be raised with lots of love and handling. I want to try to avoid the lack of socialization as much as possible. I plan on taking them to the shop with me once they are old enough so they will have more socialization and experiances there.

I want to thank everyone for their opinion and advice. Your assistance has been invaluable and I know with the knowledge posted on this board I will learn alot more and not make the same mistake twice. Without ya'lls help, this well could have ended in disaster for either my son or Tino.

Thank You

Therese

At least you know now to do extra socializing with these puppies due to their father...that will help alot.   Are you selling them on a no breed contract?  I would consider that if I were you.  And SCREEN SCREEN SCREEN those potential buyers.

If Tino isn't gone by this weekend make sure he is nowhere around or has any access to the puppies.  I would hate to see something happen with them.  It will be great for you son to help you with them.  He will bond with them, who knows maybe even fall in love with one that suits you both.

Are you keeping the female?  And what did you think about the neutering idea?

I applaud you for asking for help-I have grown up with the breed, my parents bred gsds, and I have a showline now-and there is soooo much to learn no matter how old we are or how long we have been involved with the breed.  So don't be discouraged by the negative comments-keep asking questions-

Good luck with the puppies and post some pictures!
