Dear lifeisbeautiful:  I don't have the time to argue with someone who has their mind made up and is not open to the possibility that they may be wrong.  As a typical liberal, you tow the line, the line being that whatever George Bush if doing, it is wrong.  Period.  I did notice that you left out the part about the Clintons selling nuclear secrets to the Chinese for "donations" to thier re-election compaign, but I could go on and on about stuff like that, as you did, but let's break it sown to "how you and I think", and not about world politics, that you and I have very little say so about.

If my neighbor, when I am at work, comes to my front door and tells my wife that he is going to kill her because of our dog peeing on his flowers, then leaves to "get his gun", and she calls me and tells me what just occurred, I am coming home as quick as I can and going to his house and kicking his ass.  I will not be calling 911 (the U.N.), I will not be calling him on the phone to discuss the problem, I will not be asking my other neighbor to go talk to him for me and smooth things over, and I will not be moving.  I will be at his house, kicking his ass, and peeing on his flowers personally.

You, on the other hand, will move, ask for a meeting, call 911, call him and tell him that you will get rid of your dog, or just barricade yourself in your home, keeping your dog in the basement and clean up its mess everyday, or some other sheepish action.

We are from two different backgrounds of bringong up and behavior attitudes.  I take it to them and you hope they never come to you.

Answer me this question GoldenElk and lifeisbeatiful, just so that I can ascertain how your minds work, if you can carry on an intelligent conversation and debate, without moving it into the gutter:

You have three children, one of them is a fourteen year old boy.  You are the father and when you are at work, your wife calls and tells you that your 14 year old son was sent home from school for spitting on another kid and your wife was ordering him to his room for the rest of the day, until his father gets home to deal with him.  But, your son tells his mother to go to hell and she grabs his arm and he hits her in her face with his fist.

What do you do?

Answer that question honestly, then I will answer the same question, and we will then know where we are coming from and how we approach problems such as this.

Take your time.

There is no right or wrong answer to this question, unless one of us has mental problems.  Give it an honest answer, without "what about this" or "depends on that".  Just answer, from what you have here.  I am intrugued.

Do right, may I answer this one please?

I would ask my wife why she is bothering me at work (I'm the husband here), why didn't she beat him until he couldn't breath? Oh, he's bigger than she is? I know my wife and it doesn't matter, the kid would be pinned up against a wall and probably wrapped in duct tape from head to toe.  She'd be the last female he'd ever hit!!  But then again, I never would have raised a kid like that so it's a moot point.

“Dear lifeisbeautiful:  I don't have the time to argue with someone who has their mind made up and is not open to the possibility that they may be wrong. “

Trully ironic. First, this can easily be said about all of you who still hold fast to the idea that “Daddy Bush” is above reproach and is out in the big bad Islam infested world protecting us from evil. And why assume that lifeisbeautiful is a bleeding heart liberal? Perhaps, lifeisbeautiful is simply a concerned American citizenwith no particular party affiliations who realizes no person or country is beyond constructive criticism in a “democracy”.

Your little scenario with the wife and the dog pissing on flowers reveals just how simplified a mind set you possess.  This is the danger of having a “common” man or woman sitting in the white house. Bush harbors this mentality, this idea of bravado over intelligence, the idea that American military might is a weapon to be used on a whim as opposed to a last resort. The average American seems to believe that diplomacy is an act of cowardice, that intelligence is something to be feared, viewed with suspicion and shunned in the name of guns and nukes, and sadly this macho fantasy posturing  has gotten us into the mess that is sucking up billions of dollars of resources and countless American and Iraqi lives.

As to 14 year old boys spitting on people and punching their own mothers in the face, you say:

“There is no right or wrong answer to this question, unless one of us has mental problems.  Give it an honest answer, without "what about this" or "depends on that".  Just answer, from what you have here. “

Actually there is a right answer. You raise your child not to spit on people, and only a severely troubled household would harbor a son who would raise a hand to his mother (again, you reveal more here about your own mental stability than anyone elses), but I guess I must be certifiable for having this obvious view of the situation, somebody get the straight jacket.

Actually this little scenario makes a great illustration of why America (or any other nation) would be better off with political leaders raised with morals and ethics. Way to go Do Right.

FROM:  iluvmygsd

so my question was...there are not many breeders near here that have GSD's but the local cops do want them and they can't afford to import them, sooo...if a local person breeds a couple times a year just for that reason, why must they have to get dogs 'titled'?

i can understand the dog needing good lines and having hips checked but why a title that they can't pay for / or care about in the first place?

my dog so far has been a great dog, great with my kids and smarter than any mutts i've ever owned (till him didnt realize just how smart or easy to train a dog could be), now, i never want to breed my dog/deal with puppies--like i said before not a headache i want--

-but we have a few friends that are cops, and if they had a female but needed a male to mate her with, so they can have future litter for the P.D. , if i said yes (would never charge the...so not for $) would that make me a bad person?

if my dogs pups would be working, why would that be a bad thing?

Resp:  The reason you would choose to title your dogs would be for the purpose of accepting the theory that this is the only reason a dog should be allowed to be bred.  If follows the SV rules.

i can understand the dog needing good lines and having hips checked but why a title that they can't pay for / or care about in the first place?

Resp:  No one says that you have to charge extra for puppies out of dogs  you took  the time and expense to train.  Hell, maybe your wealthy and can afford to do it.  I'm not and I can't.

Resp: Temperament and good health are far more important to the well being of an owner than all the titles in the world.  What good is a Champion that is sick all the time?  Trainability is important.  However, what is always good for you individually may not be so for the people you sell or give dogs to.

RESP:  If your cop friends have females that are untitled, maybe their hips and elbows may not be tested either.  You said ,"a few friends that are cops".  What do you do with the rest of the puppies if the bitch whelps a litter of 10?  No one, not me or anyone else on this list can tell if a 6-8 week old puppy is going to have hip and elbow problems..  Dogs with thse problems can never work for long.  Someone will fall in love with the pup and then be faced with a decision before its a year old.  Spend thousands on an operation or put the dog down?  The conscientious breeder that checked the parents joints before breeding has done their best.  They owe that and no more to the buyer or receipient of a "gift" or a dog they buy.

if my dogs pups would be working, why would that be a bad thing?

Resp:  Not all people that get dogs, work them?  I sell to a lot of cops that just raise their dogs at home with their families.  They are not used on the force.  Crippled dogs cant work.  Not all dogs have an "attitude" for work.
