Shoot, didn't think I sounded THAT wishy washy.

Nope, never said I would buy under limited registration, never have and  never will.

I do however admire breeders that sell under limited.  Easy to say you are concerned about  the breed, another thing to have your stance cost you money.

Somehow I'm less apt to question someone's sincerety when they put their money where their mouth is.....................

Why would you fear the breeder won't lift the limited registration if you fulfill the terms of the contract?  A breeder has more to lose in reputation by failing to comply, and more to gain in consumer confidence by sticking to the terms.  Thereafter, you can breed on your own terms, set your own standard.

darylehret~ you are my new hero. Like I said before, I was appossed to this myself, I felt and sounded just like PSP but with further thinking and watching the way the dog world and people work, this seems the only way. People will tell you they wont or don't want to breed all day long and then their bitch comes in heat and before you know it....puppies and to let them capitalize on those pups, when there are so many trying to do this the right way.

You all don't really think the Koered and hip x-rayed dogs are driving the puppy prices up do you? It's the BYB's who have flooded the market with puppies for sale. Those who do more, make less in the end. Sad fact. I don't want to reward those taking the short cut.

Not really a fear but not something *I* am comforable leaving to someone else.

I am the one that paid for the pup.  I am the one that put two years training, feeding and taking care of the pup.  I am on the one that paid for the xrays.  To do all of that, have a dog that I want to breed, and then to find out that for what ever reason I can't get the registration changed?

Just not a risk, however small that I am willing to take.

Yes, I do have issues with giving control to others.<VBG>.

What does it really matter?  If someone is going to be a scumbag and doesn't really know what they are doing, they will go to someone cheaper than you and buy any dog with full papers.  If someone doesn't want limited they will find someone that will.  If you have such great dogs that were so breedworthy, why not sell them all at the same price with full registration.  Somebody trusted you to better the breed.  What is the worst that can happen?  They take this "one of a kind" puppy that you bred because you have two dogs that are going to better the breed because they are some of the best dogs around and they breed theirs.  If they are really that careless, they are going to breed them whether they have full or limited.  Wouldn't you rather have one of your "top notch" progeny breeding than a puppy out of the paper?  If you think you can stop people from breeding you are naive.  The only way you can stop everyone is to advocate what failed in California.

If you sell a dog with limited registration and the person fulfills the needs to get the dog a full registration. He/She now has a full registration and can breed their dog, whats to say they don't breed it with some AKC registered floppy eared, partially white, teeth missing etc. dog?

Bottom line is IMO you still can't guarantee what is going to happen. Even though you had great intentions.

Sure they can be sneaky and underhanded and still breed 2 dogs, even breed to something other than a GSD but they wont be registered under my kennel name or dogs who came from my breedings. I'll make damn sure when someone sees a dog with my kennel name on it, it is a GSD that represents the true working breed. I'm hoping all who come after them will also stay quality dogs.

No a breeder can't control the future or what happens after their pups leave but doing this, is as much as you can do and I with good intentions. Also I do hope to detour scumbags and the like. If they want to go somewhere else, by all means have at it. I wont help them screw what I am trying to improve.

Who knows I might just not ever breed another litter. I'll just buy my dogs when I want one. I have been thinking about breeding little dogs anyway. Litte yappers that don't need OFA's or breed surveys.  Anybody in the market for tri color weener dogs? AKC of course! LOL
