Kaiser,  Canidae is a far cry from the Ol Roy. Using the above chart the Ol Roy is losing points from the get go. Im afraid the final score would be very low. The Canidae has Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Brown Rice, White Rice, and Lamb Meal as the first 5 ingredients. It also has 3.70% Omega 6 and 0.6% Omega 3 as well as Glucosamine.

Ol Roy loses 10 points immediately from the meat and bone meal, which is a non-specific animal source ("meat" or "poultry", meat, meal Or fat) reference, subtract 10 points
Ol Roy is preserved with BHA, so it loses another 10 points.  It has colors, Corn meal as the next ingredient after the meat and bone meal. animal fat, salt and you can see where the score is headed.

Has anyone heard any more about the alleged finding of Acetominaphen in Canidae? I chucked almost a whole bag of the chicken/rice even though it wasn't on the list.

Thanks! It doesn't seem to have anything new though... I did like using the food occasionally. Now I am paranoid.

Great information.  Two of our dogs get the Natural Balance Duck and Potatoe (116A+).  I'll need to look uo the other premium we use.  I was looking at "premium" cat food last night at the grocery store, they would all haved rated in the 20's.  Ended up at the pet food store and got them Natural Balance premium too.

The first FIVE ingredients of any dog food make up 75% of the food, the rest is, to me, almost negligable.   I went through the calculations of how many cups per pound first,
- that's 4.8 cups per lb  then calculated how much glucosamine/condrointin a particular dog food offered by the day.  Called the MFG and ask them some info, and It is NOT sufficient.  So, you still end up supplementing their food for that reason.   Just because they mention its has it in their food, doesn't mean its enough.   A large male GSD needs 1500 mg per day of G.C.   Young dogs don't need it.   They need the right calcium phosphorous levels.    Around  1% of each.

i've been working on a comparison table for my own reference but am not nearly done with it.

http://kerschberger.com/DogFoodIngredients.htm  is my ingredients list table.

If you want to try something of good value and good quality then look into Premium Edge or the new Diamond Naturals

I change dog food every year, I used Eagle Pack Original which is going to be switched now to Premium Edge or Diamond Naturals.  I'll still end up supplementing with several ingredients, but I do that anyway.

I looked at the dogfoodanalysis site, but must mention that  I don't see any expert advice, resume, name of who wrote this or who is the site owner.     Especially after them saying MEAT MEAT MEAT, i had a chuckle.   Innova Evo is way too high in protein - they can't even recommend it for puppies.   So then they recommend to feed less I guess.  Innova is only good for extreme high drive dogs who burn it off.    That high of a protein is extremely hard on the dogs' liver.  Ask your vet.

If in doubt call the Manufacturer yourself.    Speak to a vet or nutrionist and get your answers.  I do everytime I have a question.

I've never had an animal that would actually eat IAMS! Dog or Cat! With a "D" score, I guess they knew what they were scoffing at. I even bought their "gravy" once, and boy that was a waste.

Trailrider: Hubby just bought another bag of Canidae today, guess he wasn't listening to me when I told him we had switched brands. Bought some of their canned food, too. I'll let you know if he starts puking up again after eating. Hopefully it was a batch problem?! Mojo still has that spot on his eye though. Wish I knew what it was, haven't bothered with the vet yet, as he is otherwise, his normal, happy, healthy, mischievous, thieving self.

MAKE SURE THE CHEMICAL   MENADIONE  ACTIVITY VIT K ,   IS NOT IN WHATEVER FOOD YOU FEED....

ITS A CHEMICAL AND NOT NEEDED .........

I USE THE AUTHORITY BAKED FOR SOME OF MY GSD'S AND STILL PUT THE RAW MEATS IN WITH IT...

I LIKE THE AVODERM AS IT IS MADE WITH AVACADOS    I PUT A BAG OF IT ONCE IN A WHILE MIXED IN WITH THE OTHER IF IHAVE A STORE COUPON   TO REDUCE THE PRICE    AND THEY HAVE BAKED TREATS.....NO PRESERVATIVES.....

OLE ROY IS A BAG OF STICKS AND STONES AND WHEAT TOPS THROWN IN A COOKER AND PUT IN A BAG....
