ok lets see if I can remember everything lol

Environmental Management lady called me, Kristie Lemmon, Thursday, to let me know because of the recent cold front, even tho I was able to move the dogs to the other section of yard, hindered the dissipation of the mercury on their skin  and fur. EPA decided to wait until Tuesday or so to come and test them, Providing it warms up enough to vaporize the mercury, a little rain would help was it out of their hair also. Tino has injured his foot somehow and I cannot get in there to examine it. It is so very hard to not go in and love on my babies, the pups are the worst affected, they are at an age that this is going to be very hard on their emotional developement :(  When I go some of them hang back but a couple come to the fence and whine. I am trying to get them placed  so that as soon as they are released they can go to homes as I have no where to put them at the moment.

Kristie also informed me that the State EPA is having difficulty locating a contractor to do the clean up so it will be after thanksgiving before they can get in and start. We will have to wait until theyhave cleaned up as much as they can before EPA will go back in a test for Mercury. Everything hinges on the retesting. If they find it in the crack of the slab or in the rafters, the house will be condemed and bulldozed. I am praying it wont go that far. I would much rather have to deal with a gutted house that can be fixed than trying to scrape a new home together. I have owned my own home for so long I forgot what it was like to rent, really doesnt sit right to have to pay someone elses mortgage lol.

I am trying to get a fence up at the trailer so that I can at least bring Tino and 1 other dog over here, I am limited to 4 dogs, which is a blessing because the landlord usually only allows 2 dogs. I have my 2 little ones inside and she said I can bring 2 big ones. Any idea how hard it is to choose which dogs to get? I did get a 10X10 kennel from a lady that didnt need it anymore and donated it to the SPCA, It is on loan to me .

Texas Dept of Health was supposed to give me the results from the mercury testing Thursday but the person handling my case wont be back in the office until tuesday, I called them friday to see if someone else could give me the result and they reffered me to the state office, I called them and the Senior Toxicologist had already gone, I asked if thre was a junior toxicologist I could speak with and they said that they had all gone for the 3 day holiday so hopefully I can get some results tomorrow.

I have 2 beds now, a queen and a full size, a couch and a dining room table and chairs, My daughter broght me a 4 pc place set and I have some pots and pans I got a t a garage sale.

I had 75.00 on the Walmart card and used it to get a set of sheets, household incidentals like cleaning supplies, trash can and TP etc and some clothes for my son.

I dont have internet at the house so I can only use it from the shop, when I am at the shop I am busy and seldom am able to get online lol I will give ya'll an update tomorrow when i get ahold of the toxicologist or somebody that can tell me something, I am not sure who will be in the office with it being a holiday.

I would like to thank each and every one of you for your support, it has meant more to me than ya'll can even begin to understand.

Have a blessed weekend :)
Therese

Does anyone who is able to help this family care at all?  How can you just leave puppies unattended? If you think about it the agencies would be splashing her pic all over the news if these dogs were left like this in any other type of situation.  But because it's in the hands of the governmant agencies there's no hurry??  Where has common sense gone?  Does anyone know anyone who can push this along?  We need to get these poor dogs to a vet, maybe we should all start to call and bother someone at fairly high levels so these babies can get the help they need and deserve.  Shandra, I have one rate on my phone, won't cost me anything to call, I'm going to start calling and screaming at people.  Hey, maybe it IS time to get the media involved.  If this was aired and people knew how long these dogs have been left to pretty much fend for hemselves, maybe ing will be done.  The agencies don't' like bad press.  Shandra would you care if I contacted the local news?  I know you didn't want publicity but this is way past ridiculous!

Sparrow,

As dumb as it sounds, I believe people are actually afraid of contamination issues at this point.

Perhaps if it were better schooled to them about how it can be spread, contained, etc., there might be more people stepping up to the plate.  But, here you have EPA telling Shandra that not only the house itself but, the very dirt it sits on may very well need to be dug up and removed.  To me, not to mention those that are not privy to this info we're receiving here, it sounds pretty scarey.

Just my 2.

by Sparrow on 13 November 2007 - 12:11

I understand all of that but they are just dragging their feet acting like there's no hurry because it's just a house and some dogs.  These puppies need to see a vet, they should've over a week ago, I just can't believe they can't remove them to an area where they can be quarantined and checked, it's very inhumane leaving them to get into whatever they can find and romping around in their own feces.

Yes, I too agree and my heart hurts for those puppies and dogs that are left pretty much to their own.  Didn't I read that Shandra sees that it looks as though one of the dogs has injured his paw?

You are right, you would think someone would have been able to at least start checking these animals out by now.
