I dont think it is appriate for you to be drilling Shandra about this incident   so just drop it   urry or whoever you are.....that is enough of your rudeness     get off of it...

She has told us her dilemma and we can see it is a bad time in her life....She has enough to deal with ,,,,and doesnt need you or anyone else...drilling her for info....get it from the authourities...she has provided all the necessary proof that she is indeed in trouble.......

An account can be set up ,,,sparrow.....at the bank she has her bank account wihtout telling any of us ....call the bank on Monday, and speak to the bank officer in charge of accounts....tell them who we all are and we want tocontibute to a special account and will they set it up   you have her name now and her sons name .......

The bank knows how to get her at her business or her cell and Shandra can call them and advise them you are going to be calling.....then   we can be told her on the site by Sparrow    what the bank s name and number is to send our contributions...the bank will do all the set up and shandra will tell them to please handle it......

We dont need to know any bank accct numbers for spam reasons,,,just the name and telephone number of the bank and the name of the reciprient of the funds     like to the account of    Miss Therese Faulhaber  , if that is her name...she can advise the bank to tell Sparrow.....

I personally will go to Livingston on Monday and take Shandra blankets and supplies and a basket of groceries...I am sure she is in a frenzy and is doing really well trying to keep us all advised......

Veronica received an email from her earlier, so I will go try to give her some support without becoming contaminated......

It will be lunchtime before I can get out of here and get on the road......I do not have a laptop but will call Veronica and she can relay what I find and if everything is good...

I will go to the bank and make sure an account is being set up  .....Sparrow   yu handle it from your end and Ill double check on it when I get there.....I wont have much time and have to get back   to my place before dark and you do realize that tonight we had time change and that means dark at 6:00 pm so I will havae to get in high gear and it is 3: oo am here and I must go to sleep..

I dont know what else she needs  but money is the biggest thing as a single mom and facing no home or no life of her belongings she has managed to keep her family together.....so If all of give as we can when we can  it will help ....when you get down to the last dollar  , God always provides , if you walk by Faith and not by cite.......

I will check this site before I leave for Livingston  on Monday......I will spend tomorrow spare time to get together article for her family to carry to her...I have a home full of extras   ....

YellowRose, thanks so much for doing in person what I'd like to but can't. I'll call the bank first thing Monday and get the info needed.  Shandra, don't feel you need to be defensive, you have enough going on right now.  You just handle what you need to with your son, the dogs, etc. and we'll take care of everything else.  Take care of YOU, make sure your health is top of the priority list, your son and those puppies need you.  Thank you everybody, let's see what we can get accomplished.

I have a different idea for all the doubters here:

Why don't we try to contact a vet in her town or county and ask him/her if we could send money for vet bills, since the poor dogs will need help, too. Shandra writes that the puppies will be spayed and neutered?

How about that idea?

Great idea, Chris!

Holy Cow Silbersee, that is an excellent idea!! That is a main concern of mine right now is getting the animals cared for, We have 4 vets locally and 1 nearby in coldsprings. I have a onngoing working relationship with all of them insome form or fashion, just mention Therese with the SPCA and they willknow who you are talking about.. The best one IMO is Livingston Animal Hospital, just because he keeps up to date on all of the most recent issues with pets altho he is very expensicve so I dont normally use his. The one that I work with the most is Area Wide Vet Clinic. OH HECK!! I dont know why I didnt think of it sooner, Dr Tim Harkness, the lead vet for the Houston Humane Society is someone that I know and should have thought of to contact. I will get his cell number first thing in the morning, being that he is with Houston Humane he is up on everything and in a position to help, He is going to do our Feral Cat spay/neuter clinic as soon as I can get it set up, something I have been working on for about a year.

Yellow Rose, thank you so much! I look forward to meeting you in person. Drop me a pm and I will give you directions to the shop. I will be on bus run from 2pm until 4:30 pm but should be att he shop at other times, I have to contact the red cross again monday but they may be able to come to me or I can stop by their office on my way in from bus run.

Sparrow, you are an angel in the flesh, I really apreciate all you are doing and trying to do,

I cannot express how thank fulI am to all of you, The re will a special place for all of you in the hereafter of your choice.

Therese

Thanks, Shandra! You could inform the apprpirate animal hospital or local humane society. All we would need is an address to send a check to.

Please hang in there, Chris

Kalibeck

As a nurse I can tell you that mercury is indeed VERY toxic, Steve, in spite of the fact that, as I posted earlier, one of my science teachers gave my class each a drop of mercury to play with, (that does kind of date me) our knowledge of such materials and their effects on the human body increases every day.....that's why most hospitals no longer use mercury thermometers, because if even a thermometer breaks, and the mercury spills, it is considered an internal hazardous material spill, patients must be moved out of the area, and a haz-mat team must clean it up! A real PIA! Please, it's OK to doubt, but this women is in distress, a little empathy goes a long way.....jh

I personally am satisfied that the incident has occurred. Shandra, some of us would like to help you. You need not explain any more about mercury because frankly, most of the posters here do not have the background to understand the hazards associated with this large a spill. It just gets the story confused then, especially when they have not carefully followed the incident as described. Most do not have anything to draw on except that they may have played with some mercury as a child. If anyone wants to learn about mercury, go read the post on the original post of "I don't know". Then, if you wish to learn more, and the literature it too difficult to understand, post a question and I will try to answer it in terms that lay people can understand. Suffice it to say that again, mercury vaporizes at room temperature. Even at ambient temperatures, with a large spill, a confined space and a heater going, significant amounts of mercury vapor may have been in the air. Certainly anything that got mercury spilled onto it was contaminated and it is EXTREMELY difficult to clean up properly. One needs specialized monitoring and cleanup equipment and all the materials that cannot be decontaminated, such as carpet, soil etc. will have to be disposed of as hazardous waste. This could cost as much as many hundreds of dollars PER 55 gallon barrel. Shandra, just a suggestion.....there is a powder that is often used to clean up small spills and which will bind up (tie up) the mercury. I wonder why this powder, in sufficient amounts, could not be used to "bathe" the pups before then giving them a bath? Give us an address for you or the vet and I, for one, will send you a small donation to help out.
