Jager and I are jumping on a plane tomorrow bound for Ivan & Carrie's in good ole Plant City FL!

I am so excited!  This will be Jager's first flight, but thankfully not my first flying with a dog, I am hoping by leaving tomorrow on the red eye we will avoid some traffic, we have a short layover in Atlanta, so we are thinking positive thoughts for no delays!

Carrie has never cooked a Turkey, so I am excited about showing her how to cook a wonderful T-day dinner!  There is also a seminar going on that week down there as well as a trial over the weekend, which I have been designated as the trial secretary, so we are in for a fun week of wonderful friends and wonderful dog training!!!

BTW - I cook my turkey also in a bag, and use FRESH marjoram, rosemary, tyme and sage, salt and pepper. Usually I can find the poultry bouquet in the veggie section, and I chop half of all of the ingredients, and place into melted butter - the salted kind - and make a rub to put on the turkey, the rest I place in the cavity - I don't stuff with stuffing- with a half of stick of butter.  This turkey is not really fat free, it is Thanksgiving!  Baste often!  I use the buttery dirpping to make the gravy, and it is so so good!!

Have a safe holiday week!  ~ Kari

I'm roasting a wild turkey with all the trimmings! Its going to be way to much for two people, as usual. Anybody want to come join us? Just let me know how many places to set. I love cooking for company.

We're going to my new hubby's daughters' house, I'm cooking a turkey & bringing it; I stuff with herbed stuffing, with chopped apples, pecans, & raisins; & I usually make a lemon cheesecake, nobody in his family is too keen on pumpkin. Carl makes a killer sweet potato pie, & his daughter & I usual compete to see who's greens are tastier. She makes a gourmet mac & cheese, yum! I do the upside down turkey, too, & Carl makes a 2nd stuffing from cornbread & bison meat with lots of sage...but one thing I'm not sure about, his daughter wanted us to 'brine' the turkey, I said no, too salty. So, I bet we're having two turkeys, too, 'cause she didn't like that answer. Mean new step-mother! LOL! jackie harris

my husband, son, 2 dogs, 1 brother and his son and i rent a cabin up in big bear. we did it last year and loved it. cold (remember, i live in so cal where its pretty warm), crisp air and the smell of pine trees. walks down to the lake with the dogs and fires at night to enjoy. my husband has always done the turkey for thanksgiving. we normally have a goose too, but i'm going with ham instead (goose for xmas). to make it easier, i just use frozen pies, but make everything else at the cabin. we used to cook for up to 30 people (including our muslim friends who considered thanksgiving and xmas at our house special events), but due to gradual bad behavior from MY family, we stopped doing it about 5 years ago. so, now we have cut the roster and take ourselves out of the tension and have a really nice time. one of my nieces and her fiance and their (between them) 3 kids usually spend the day with us on saturday. her dad (my X bro-in-law who i still care for deeply as does the rest of the family) has a girlfriend who owns 2 properties in running springs (they survived the fire) and they spend a few days there. saturday the guys watch football, the kids play video games, and play with the dogs, i read/watch football, keep the kids in line (hah), play with the dogs. later, we go into town, give the kids $, the big ones watch the younger ones and we drop them off at the arcade, i go shopping for fun stuff, the guys go to a sports bar and drink bloody marys and beer til i scoop them up and we go out for mexican food and then back to the cabin. we rented a bigger place this year, so we'll have more room inside, and i'm hoping the fenced yard is a decent size for the dogs. the one last year was huge outside, very small inside. dogs get spoiled cuz they get extra walks/play by the lake. i am ready to go YESTERDAY!

venzosmom - have a great time in aruba! and everyone - may you have a wonderful, "fight-free" thanksgiving!

This will be the first time in 40 years that my mother is not cooking Thanksgiving dinner.  We are going to my sister in laws (30 plus) of us.  Bummed because I cannot take my dogs this time.  Every year my friends and I make 10 turkey baskets which I take to the Salvation Army.  This morning after arriving back from training Molly - I loaded up the baskets in my car and noticed one basket seemed very light in comparison to the other 9.  When I was walking back into the house to get my purse, I discovered why.  It seems Libby and Falon were tempted by the food in the basket and stole a box of stuffing and instant potatos which they opened and spread through out my dining room.  Then they discovered that graham cracker pie crust is much tastier and polished off one of them!   I had to run back to the store to replace all the stuff they pilfered!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I too am working - 5am to 2pm feeding over 200 people at the retirement home where I work.   But, then I do get to run home, pack up the dogs and overnight bags and run to my mother-in-laws to meet up with my hubby and boys where we'll pig out in a big way...sit back and complain about it afterwards and end up spending the night.

It'll be hard on me 'cause I have to get up at 4am, pack the doggies back up and run 'em home and then, backtrack into work whilst everyone else is still sleeping.  The worst part is, they'll end up keeping me up until at least midnight with their craziness.  (We live in the boonies and when we go into town, my hubby gets the neighborhood rocking!)  lol

I could leave the dogs at home but, that just doesn't seem fair.  Besides, my mom-in-law's neighbors love our girls.

I may be lucky enough to escape having to cook anything myself .

Yea I had to work last year but this year I have it off. We are driving to family's house and can't bring the GSD. Can you believe that? What is Turkey day without the dogs. OH well I'll take him to the dog park before hand. He loves it. I to live in Southern California and they are predicting warm weather. So I wish I could invite all the GSD owners from cold places for a visit on Turkey day but  my wife has family in mind not more dogs. Funny she doesn't see it my way.

It was nice of you to think of us but I actually prefer the cool crisp, fall air at Thanksgiving.  Brings back wonderful childhood memories of playing outside in the leaves, playing touch football (yes, even girls played in our neighborhood) and later going inside with all of the extended family to sit down to a scrumptious trukey dinner. I'm one of those weird people who even likes snow! I don't think I could ever live where there wasn't the change of the seasons, I guess it's all what you're used to but I'll take cold and snow and also enjoy the miracle of spring and of course savor every day of summer while it lasts.  And if you came to my house for dinner your dogs would be welcome, all snuggled up in front of the fire after dinner, bellies full and everyone relaxing.
