I know you do...

Okay, there's a nice V-rated female in Baden's ped:

Let's compare with the other 2 major GSD lines:

German showlines: VA Ursus von Batu

American showlines: Kismet's Sight for Sore Eyes (Dallas) ROM

Personally, I don't think the differences are insurmountable. As a matter of fact, Dallas looked enough like a German showline that people sometimes asked his handler what his koer rating was. All it will take is time, and people who are dedicated to seeing it happening. The split didn't happen overnight, but as we all know, back in the 50's and early 60's, the breed was one.

I've heard some people say that the banana back is becoming less common with the German showlines, so maybe some sanity is returning to the judging. There is NOT a great deal of difference between the American and German standard. It is all in the way the dogs are being judged. If the judges all judged ACCORDING TO THE STANDARD, I think we'd have much better, sounder dogs.  And BOTH standards call for a STRAIGHT back!

Great post, DeesWolf.  Of course, showline breeding will continue, and Golden Middle is a dirty word in my vocabulary.  I really believe that if a breed club registry was founded by enough workingline breeders, that's not under the political wing of the AKC, you could eliminate alot of the substandard practices watering down the workinglines.  We all claim to have higher standards, but no process is present to ensure that they're upheld.  One that isn't driven by money or politics, that leads to "cammo of flaws".

Dee I commend you and your program. After your post, I had to look at your website and check your dogs out. Ziegen thanks for that link. I rememebr seeing it awhile back but didn't remember who that dog belonged to. Can't keep track of everybody.

Look at Gipsi go! Great fun watching her work. She has a little speed to her and little fire too. Where did she get that Asko tail? LOL

Very nice, Animules! Remind me of one of my own favourites, Okka von der Schiffslache: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/491545.html

Again, von Karthago in the bloodlines!

Sunsilver, I would like to add Baden's mom, Jazzmine went V and KKL1 at the Mid-Central regional Schutzhund championships. She was also the only V score in protection with a 99. Congrats to Chris Orkies.

Thank you for the nice comments on Gipsi. She is my joy. She is a very dominant dog, who knows what she wants and what she doesn't want. A true bitch. About the only time her tail is at rest is when she is eating or playing with pups. The Tail of Excitement, as I call it, comes from her sire Ghandi I am told. The tail is always in motion, and one of the things that gets her into most trouble.

That Gipsi is something special, for sure.

hmmm, Stephanitz invisioned a dog that could do work.  So, that is the only way to go.

Henry Ford invisioned a vehicle that could carry passenger around, without the use of a horse.  So that is the only way to go.

No need for pretty dogs.  No need for bicycles.  No need for lap dogs.  No need for motorcycles.  No need for sport dogs.  No need for pets.  No need for anything other than what something was originally intended for huh.  If so, don't text message.  Phones were originally intended for phone conversation.

Silly points I know, but I can''t help laugh everytime someone comes on here and says that the GSD was and always should be just for "the work".  Some even say that a GSD that is not a "hard ass" should not be bred.

I say again.  Isn't that why the American Pit Bull Terrier and other like dogs, Rotts, etc, are banned from many locations.  There is and should be GSD's that are being bred and trained for "the work", like the police and military, but really, shouldn't and couldn't there be those that breed GSD's for other jobs that do not include biting "skills and temperment"?  Do you really need a dog to be a hard ass to sniff bombs, drugs, bodies, etc, or to show?

Shouldn't and couldn't and isn't there already, lines that excell in different areas?

What the hell is wrong with a show dog?  Don't we show cars, clothes, and even ourselves in beauty pagents and muscle building contests?

There is room for both.  Stick to your own.  Don't cross them without a reason and plan.  Then everyone will have what they want.  Some think that Schutzhund is silly.  Some think that showing is silly.  I think that both are silly.  I just want Rin Tin Tin on my living room floor, at my feet.  Rinny was not a Dalmation.  Not a Chihuahua or a Lab.  Why should the GSD world cater to your desires and ideas and not my desires and ideas?

Okay, now have fun.  I love making the day for others.
