Shelley Strohl

At this point I am planning to go down and meet Max tomorrow (45+ min. drive one-way). Too icy here. I would like to try to spring him then if he's okay, maybe deliver him to Molly (another hr. & 45 min. each way further) right after. Anyone else interested in Max is welcome to meet me at the shelter. As long as they have some some kind of credentials the shelter will let Max go. Any help with the adoption fee/gas money would be very welcome. I'm really broke till Monday, hate to have to pass a bad check. :-O The shelter takes credit cards, but mine is still maxed out from the NASS in St. Louis. I can't afford to do this, but hey, the dog doesn't have time to hang around... He's been there nearly two weeks, not going on the regular adoption floor and they say they need the space. I just keep thinking "What if that were one of my dogs?" Link: http://www.lehighhumane.org/fees.html Thanks all. SS

Shelley, If you have a paypal account.. I'll send some money for the adoption fee (I assume it's 75 dollars??). I don't want to even hear about this dog being put down! It's totally unacceptable in my books :) I want to help anyway that I can.

Adoption fees come to between $130-150. I'm trying to negotiate, but I'm thinking I'll end up paying out at least $100. + a full tank of gas for the van. But at least I'll sleep at night knowing the dog is out of danger. We'll worry about buying dog food for my dogs later. ;) SS

If you take the dog I will send a donation to that humane society earmarked for his adoption fee.

Shelly send me your paypal account, or to the paypal account to this shelter. I'll send some money to you (or the shelter) to get this dog out and save his life.

Try this e-address: roecker18235@yahoo.com I think I actually might have a PayPal account, never tried it, don't remember how it "works." I will go on their site and try to figure out if its complete, works, etc. Been awhile since I looked into it. I know I SEND money for E-Bay with it, no problems. Maybe it works both ways, I don't know, but will find out. My friend Patty thinks Max looks like a Kromerhaus dog. Kromer died last summer so no point trying to contact him for this issue... I don't even know if Denise is still keeping dogs, would recognize or be interested in Max. I could try to contact her, but ??? Failing that, we'll probably spring him tonight (somehow). Kromer bred some nice dogs. If Max is from him he is probably a very good boy for K9, may have even been trained at their club, which would explain the nice "platz." Who knows? He might even know a lot of tracking & protection! Probably no way to accurately ID him at 3-4 yrs, but it would sure be nice to learn his real name somehow. Later, SS 610-392-7197

Max IS a very nice dog. No aggression towards anyone I cold see, but we know its IN THERE. Very strong nerves, aloof with strangers, but friendly. Alert, confident even in the icky shelter environment with no "certain someone" but not one to start the fight, typical DDR type dog. There IS the presence of strong aggression capability deep inside, but it would take a very serious threat (on handler or self) to bring it out! Good with kids and dogs, cats, but a butt-head when nervous people walk down the kennel row worried anyway. (read: fun game for bored working dog) He has a good retrieve drive, likes the tug, but would probably demonstrate a lot more when fully bonded to a handler in a one-on-one environment, outside the shelter atmosphere. He is clearly "lost" at this time, dying for an alpha leader to make his life complete. He does need a strong dominant handler, preferably male. To put his dog to sleep would be a shame! He was apparently picked up by Allentown animal control as a result of a "police action" in downtown Allentown, high population of drugs and crime. Then turned over to Lehigh Co. Humane Society two weeks ago. His calloused hind legs and elbows, not the best muscle tone (although he wouldn't be a kennel-runner,probably laid around most of the day) show he was probably thrown in a small back yard and all-but-forgotten for a long time. He was fed,, but only junk food, hence the dry skin. I used to work at the Morning Call newspaper in that neighborhood... rough indeed. I'm thinking his owner is either dead or in jail. He needs some TLC, but I didn't see any indication of physical deficiency, even when jumping up onto a 3.5' platform several times. This dog only needs a "real" handler, and a chance for a better life! I will talk to the director tomorrow. I may not have the documented "credentials" to pull him, but the interest we have generated has earned him a stay of execution for awhile. Hopefully we can spring him tomorrow or maybe Monday. IMO: This dog certainly does NOT deserve to be put to sleep! If I had any place at all, I would take him in myself, confident I could place him in a great forever home in no time. SS For pix I took today, which will warm your heart, please e-mail me at roecker18235@yahoo.com. IMO: To let this fine dog be put to sleep would be a shame. I don't know if I will be able to spring him... the org wants documentation: 501C, badge, not too picky but some kind of doc's of history training for law enforcement submitted (fax?) to let him out, but at least the interest shown today got him a stay of execution past his Friday date with Jesus. I will visit again tomorrow afternoon, hopefully speak with the LCHS director who was not here today. SS

A lot of dogs act aggressive when they are kenneled. I'd like to see that picture please - blitzengsd@comcast.net Thanks.

Done! Maybe I can free Max today or Monday. I'm working on it night and day. This boy WILL have a good Christmas! I couldn't live with myself knowing such a nice dog's locked in a small, indoor run, eating crap dog food, shaking his head from the ear infection, waiting for the needle. Thanks all, SS
