Hi all,

I really do need some kind of moderation software rather then simply deleting unwanted messages

What most of you probably do not know is that this website drives alot of traffic and gets good rankings at Google.com,  so text and subjects earn a pretty high location at search engines.  Meaning that a message like:  Topic: Fubar breeding  text :  really does a bad thing.    Will in most cases result in a  nr. 1 spot in google for the text "Fubar" or "Fubar breeding".
I need to delete shady topics.

That being said,  I always wanted to have the message board incorporated into the website as a part of it, rather then a whole new website with a link from the website.  So I programmed it myself.

But that does mean that I do not have the sophistication that full blown messageboards have.   So I need some moderation and I feel that some threads have merit but need to be stopped.

So give me ideas folks...   What should I do with the lurking trolls?

Either block them or remove any "questionable"  posts from the thread - especially when they become "pissing wars".  I don't know if you have the ability to just remove certain posts though instead of the whole thread.

Oli, I think the way you just delete the threads in question works and speaks volumes.  I agree with Shelley and realcold, just block'em!

Block them and publish their IP addresses so people will know who they really are.  Maybe that would put a stop to all the BS when they can no longer hide behind alias'

Thank You Oli!!

I think Trolls, spammers and people with multiple Message Board ID's should be blocked.

First, Oli you need to be congratulated for having the greatest overall GSD site ever. Especially valuable are the photos of GSDs, their pedigrees, progeny, linebreeding, etc. and all of the easily searched items.  Beyond this the Forum is an added benefit, but unfortunately provides opportunities for some very sick and/or degenerate individuals to attempt to create multiple spoof lines of posts (to amuse their sick needs) and to attack, villify, abuse and stalk others.

At one time 30-40% of the posting subject topics were provided by one sick individual with apparent multiple personality disorder, or a worse problem. This same individual harrassed and abused some very experienced breeders who provided a wealth of useful GSD information, driving them away.  For example the abuse directe at DP of Videx was way over the top.

I suggest that you develop a system requiring a persons, name, home address, and email  evrification and then keep this information in complete confidence, allowing the poster to use a call name and list his/her email address if desired.

Perhaps you could investigate the system Ed Frawley uses for email verification.

Perhaps you could continue the two tiered system, where unregistered folks could visit the site, but would be prevented from posting. The key is updating your registration system to prevent multiple user names used by one person.  You could even send them the last half of an id verification key in the mail linking them to an actual mail address.  Then you would want to perhaps charge a registraton fee to cover these costs and extra labor.

A sophisticated registration system would tend to prevent deranged, disturbed, troublemakers from registering and then subsequently posting, but that would be a good thing.  Once the abusive sickos are driven off this way, you will see many esteemed posters come back (I know of at least 10 who probably would--these folks left because of mr. mpd's abuse and all the garabage posted).

Anyhowm let's face it Oli, you are a software genius.  If anyone can figure it out, you certainly can.  I myself would pay a small fee to register and maybe a small service fee each year of use, it it was reasonable and prevented the sickos from trolling this site.

Again, thanks for all the excellent work you do to bring us this valuable site.
