Shelley Strohl

by Shelley Strohl on 18 April 2008 - 00:04

While we're on the subject, I want to take this opportunity to applaud T Floyd for his tireless efforts  helping anyone and everyone, with ZERO concern for who they were, where they came from, what potentially serious "issues" their dog presented, during both practice sessions. T was probably the last one to exit the parking lot on Friday night, having worked his you-know-what off trying to see to it that any dog who needed some last-minute adjustments in order to do their best the next morning benefitted from his ability & willingness to instantly assess their performance and provide exactly what was needed in light of the time constraints and even historical training deficiencies. They don't call it the "T FLOYD SCHOOL of  BITE FULL and OUT CLEAN THE FIRST TIME" for nothing!  One can always buy a new leash at the concession stands tomorrow, and shame on us for showing up for protection with a thin little show line, with its little sissy-light-gauge snap in the first place. LOL  I'm just grateful neither of the leashes on the sublimely excited dogs I my candy-arse struggled to hold fast at the edge of the protection field failed at the wrong time.  (Please Lord, NOT ON MY WATCH!) I know what a few of my beloved friends are getting for Xmas from me this year. (You know who you are, Dah-lings, she grinned mischeviously. hee hee hee ;-)

Shelley, we must have had different vantage views at last year's SS as I saw basically the SAME Exact performance tests as I was able to witness via video this year. Dogs, both male and female who should have been called as insufficient ALLOWED and labeld as Pronounced and outs to then stand for exam and run the ring.

This year, handlers didn't have to give three aus commands because they could yank their dog off the sleeve and STILL be given pronounced and outs.

In regard to the long legs, in the heel to the blind, that doesn't fly with me. There is NO Excuse whatsoever for what continues to be an uncontrollable presentation to the blind.

I appreciate that you have years of experience exhibiting and spectating, but come on, seriously, do you really believe what has happened and what can be viewed repeatedly is correct?

The videos are proof that "anything goes" was acceptable, and THEN applauded by the masses.

Call it what you or anyone else will, bad training or poor genetics, it all boils down to THIS was ALLOWED to happen! It continues to happen. It needs to stop.

I really need to apologize to Heidi and her Dog Obi Wan  I mis-typed not once but twice TeeJay Wilhendorf's  catalog number.  I do not want anyone under the impression that Heidi's dog gave the performance of which I commented below.  I have seen him in training and at a trial and he is a very nice dog with good solid work ethic.  The two 44 's should have been 46's.

Not as inconsistent as some of the german sieger show bite work but you are correct about the performances of 44 and 45.  I thought 6 showed more than those two and certainly no less but got INS.  I felt bad for 23 who got run over and stomped on twice, bad angle or other positioning but still unfortunate.  At least the performance of 44 was better than his german sieger show bitework.

Mary, Nice pictures of Ule.     She has a much fuller grip then most of the videos I watched so far.

Lonewulf, thanks again for posting the video's.  I've watched #1 through #29, and also #45-#47.   Your effort in filming, editing, and posting is appreciated by many.    And probably not by a few.

Many have said it should not be SL versus WL, that's true and I think most of us agree.  But this explains so much.  Thank you to the few SL people speaking out here, I wish you were in the majority.  It's scary to read where this is much improved from last year????  I've seen some SL's I very much like the look of, but for me for now my working lines are as pretty and what I want.

The story was the same at the Carson City SS several years ago. Nothing has improved and nothing has changed.

I wonder what the UScA's directors and officers feel like today realizing that so many people, some members of the organization have seen such a flaunting of that rules don't matter.  I realize that several of these directors and officers were present at the show.  My assumption would be that they are worried that they will be held accountable for not ensuring that the rules are being followed, as they should.  If there are enough members that really feel outraged, they should voice their concerns to the top.  And the directors that were present should be held accountable in accordance with the By-laws.

The progeny groups are a sign of excellence in breeding practices in the USA?  Here I agree 100% with Louise.  Where does genetic diversity come into play here?  Would not a breeder be interested finding the best stud for his female based on bloodlines and not for the purpose of putting up a progeny group for the in-house stud.  The breeders are more than kennel blind.  Hopefully none of these males have serious genetic problems, only to arise later.

Watching the videos was painful and above all an insult to anyone's intelligence.

Complete and utter shit.

I've thrown away more genetics in a scoop of feces from my Stuka and my Caine than these dogs will produce in a lifetime of breeding and watering down and ruining a breed. Each of these dogs should die a virgin.

People, these are German Shepherds by name only!!!!    What a joke.

Do you wonder why your dog won't protect you?
Or why he he pisses when he hears thunder or lightning?
Or why there are so few GSD Police dogs these days?
Well watch these videos and see why. You are witnessing the destruction of a breed.

Complete and utter shit.

Thank you so much for posting these videos.  This is exactly what is needed - openness.  Perhaps USA didn't want to change anything and they only want to publish "what a great magazine" letters, but after this, what if 25 people each wrote a separate letter about this?  Would be very interesting to see if NONE of them show up in the magazine.  We could find out here how many people wrote and if not one letter is published....that itself will be revealing.

They may not have listened before, but posting the videos is great - it's out there for the world to see what is being labeled VA and pronounced, and how the rules don't apply to everyone.

And now it's known that at the NEXT SS videocameras are rolling and everyone will be able to see the judge give pronounced to dogs who fall off the sleeve.  This is how reforms start.

Thank you, lonewulf.

Does it ever occur to USA that entries would be HIGHER if people didn't think the decisions were made before the dogs took the field?  I too was shocked to see a dog that was pretty much glorifled on this msgboard slinking along by its handler, being YELLED at, and performing poorly.

by hodie on 20 April 2008 - 16:04

The letters to USA won't be printed in the magazine. It would be politically incorrect. After all, we want only a positive spin on things.....BS. Coddling is worse than not acknowledging problems.

Nate is correct. It was pathetic.
