GSDNewbie

by GSDNewbie on 14 December 2004 - 22:12

I couldnt agree more Brian and Charlie!!! I'd like to add a bit if I may: Range time and training time are very important just because you have the permit and guns and the dog doesnt mean stop or slack of with the range practice or the dog training. Also everyone in the home with both should be taught where they should be and do or not do if they hear commotion from the home invasion. Take the mystery out of the guns for kids along with proper storage our children began cleaning our guns with us before they were allowed to shoot when they showed us proper intelligence and responsibility they understand how they work from the inside out and understand its not a toy. I had a female rottweiler schutzhund trained that took down an intruder this is interesting you say they will not maybe it was because she was used everyday as a protective and working companion and was never trialed? sorry to have gone on about this but we do use these things in our daily living and it saved our butts it does happen folks!!

HI GSDNewbie The way you taught your kids about gun safety is the same way my father taught me and will be the same exact way I teach my son when he is old enough. I was hunting rabbits with my father when I was 5 years old, had to clean the gun and the rabbit LOL. I also go to training with my GSD two times a week and try to get some shooting practice in as much as possible.

lol my grandfather raised me same way if you dont need it dont shoot it if you shoot it clean it and eat it!! take care of your animals then yourself and they will take care of you. alot of old but true philosophy. we hunted mostly waterfowl, deer, and some rabbit. My husband was raised same way by his folks with the adition of waterfowl guiding and running traps and fish nets. My husband and I train in defense pistol shooting and other things. We continue it with our children one teen and other is wee one of almost four. I wish I could find a suitible place to train with my dog I am still hunting that one may have to resort driving back home for schutzhund once a month. In the meanwhile she is with me all day everyday and I think that in itself lends much to the training. wish america would take the german way of allowing dogs more out in public such socialization of all dogs is a dream I wish to see come true. all this may be a bit much in minds of many I am used to that but we enjoy this life and we figured out long ago that help doesnt care till its too late and it turns to an investigation after the fact. Glad to know others are keeping the same values alive somtimes we feel alone on this.

Thanks for the compliment Charlie. It does seem like I've been waiting forever for this little girl. I couldn't be happier that is for sure, I've always wanted a Norbo Ben-Ju or Xero z. PS pup. In this pup I'll have both in first two generations of the pedigree. Your site looks like its shaping up nicely. I like that it is flash you don't see many dogs sites done that way. I'm a huge fan of Randy he looks like a GSD should look to me. Great big head, nice top line. I would love to see him work. To bad I'm half way across the US from you.

a SchH 1,2 or 3 dog does not guarantee a civil bite. Those dogs advertised are RE-trained to bite civil. Sure, some SchH dogs may bite, but, there is a change that if the perpetrator lets go of his jacket, the dog may be just fine with that. This is why, as Brian said, PSAK9 is better for that reason. Its also more fun, for sure. ;) I didn't want to open a subject about guns, it was just that real life scenario where a well trained dog could have saved his life for sure. And NO Charlie, gotta love ya, but, come into my house, and you're toast for sure. With or without a gun. Because, if the dogs don't get to an intruder, I will... My remark was not emotional regards my Zuni. He's pulled me out of enough scenario's to know that this dog can/will safe a life. Once you've actually experienced that in real life situations, the whole picture becomes clear(er).
