Kalibeck

by Kalibeck on 14 October 2008 - 16:10

No, it wasn't the pumpkin eater....he's fine. His sister, Ansgar, stopped eating yesterday, vomited once, stopped defecating OR urinating........very listless, almost limp...  Vet did a flat plate, cbc, chem panel, stool exam-which was bloody-. abdomen soft, afebrile...labs came back OK ---dehydrated, got some pepcid, flagyl, & some fluids on board. Giardia & other parasites & protozoans negative...liver panel WNL. $361.52 later, the official word is wait & see. All other dogs OK.......I think she must have gotten into something, tho' I don't know what, she's observed directly when not crated, & I haven't found any debris from anything........any ideas? Thanks for the prayers & kind words......she really had me scared, but I wanted her seen by her vet that knows her. She's a little perkier now since the fluids. Thanks again, & keep those prayers coming....I don't think we're out of the woods yet. jackie harris

If she's not passing any stool, but no debris visible in x-ray, it could be an intusscuption (not sure I spelled that right) of the bowel. These sometimes happen for no reason, and need prompt surgery. (the bowel telescopes into itself, creating a blockage.)

Hope and prayers going your way for something simpler and less expensive to treat!

Her tummy is not tender, or tense.....the vet does not suspect bloat, torsion, or intussusception of the bowel, thank goodness. Right now we are going with severe gastritis, etiology unknown. And the ol' man had better keep a close eye on her tonight, or he may develope an intussesception of the neck! ( I guess you can figure out what I suspect! ) jh

Yes...those old men can be quite the trouble makers when it comes to dogs, as you know!  Sue can attest to that as well.

Thank you, all, for your continued well wishes. I am at work, but Carl says the puppy is up & barking, & she voided before I left, & he is trying to get her to take a little bland food with chicken broth as I type. Thanks again, everyone! jackie harris

Well If I do recall correct, Kalibeck didn't plan to have a litter but her hubby decided to sneak a breeding of his own accord with a visiting stud dog. Maybe he also fed the pup something or let it out where it wasn't allowed??
