Personally, I've had good luck with my rescues, but to each their own...

My current rescue barks up a storm, but is completely harmless once someone is inside the house.

If I were anywhere close to Texas, I wouldn't hesitate to get a dog from Yellow Rose, or to follow up on her recommendations as to other breeders to talk to.

Good luck!

And whatever dog you get, I would most certainly find a good trainer. Even the best dog can develop problems, if you don't know what you are doing. Shepherds are naturally a rather dominant breed, and you need to k now how to teach basic manners, and how to be the pack leader.

Carolyn,

Who did you buy from?  There are a few good breeders here in Oklahoma.  If you would like feel free to email me and I can maybe help you.  I am located up by Tulsa.

We Are Siamese, if I recall correctly, you posted some very similar questions on the Leerburg forum back in March etc (years ago). At that time, you were interested in breeding later down the road, so although you were looking for a working line Czech/DDR more for a companion dog/protection type dog that could be titled to a SchH 1 by someone else, are you now strictly only looking more for a companion dog or are you still looking for a working line Czech/DDR bloodline dog that could also be a prospect for titling etc. That may help people direct you to the type of dog you are looking for now?

Regards

I came to my senses and have no interest in breeding dogs anymore!!!! LOL Siamese cats are my first love , and always will be(well the Applehead/t Traditional and classic  types that I breed- are not the bat eared show  type extreme wedgeheads , but that is a different story) LOL...Obviously I would like a conformationally corect good looking dog but not for breeding...companion and noisemaker/deterrent :)

My first post still stands now that I know you raise cats...A puppy  can be taught in two weeks to leave the kitties alone...Mahon has taught Bossie, Zidane daughter to leave the chickens alone..she now runs with them and right around them all..and she doesnt chase the cows either.

..She is smarter than Mahon, though,, she drops her balls in the dog food sack so she can cheat and get another mouth of dog food., or she drops her ball on someones shoes so she can sneak the shoe instead of the ball...She does the drop the ball in a lot of situations to sneak into something she knows she is not suppose to do or be...Funny.

You need a puppy so you can form the habits correctly and address the cat/dog situation from the beginning,

Hope you don't take this the wrong way, but from your description of the dog you hope to find, maybe you don't want a GSD after all.  Or maybe you do want one, but it doesn't sound like the breed that best suits your wants, likes, and lifestyle.  If you want a dog that sits around, doesn't move much, farts and drools a lot (like a Basset Hound for instance) but want one that is a good deterrant against intruders, strangers, visitors - maybe a breed to consider is a Bloodhound?  English Mastiff?  Or some other big, impressive-looking, big strong-looking yet slow and lazy (and farts and drools a lot LOL)  Just a thought.
