"And one more thing (to everyone), nobody cares that your showline or workingline dog is great. Everyone, me included, thinks their dogs are great."

I am with you on that one lol :)

Thank you snajper, happy New Year to you as well.

Let me just try to rewrite the rest of my post, instead of trying to copy and paste it.

I have a 10 day old litter on the ground right now - 6 dark, lively and agile females (no males which I do not need in that sort of litter anyway). Mother is my beautiful V-rated workingline female Chuckie who is a bit of a living legend in her former region (7) in Germany. To date, she has produced V-rated offspring, BSP participants and the 2008 German Vice Universal Sieger. While being bred one day, the next day she competed in and won a VDH Regional Schutzhund Championship which was hosted as an all working breed match and judged by SV Vice President Heiko Grube. She beat a couple of other breeds as well. Anyway, she was bred to VA-Arko vom Butjenter Land who has presented two very impressive progeny groups in the past German Sieger Shows. A total mix litter, but with the best odds on both sides! Bancroft, do you really think if I wanted "to satisfy the pet market" I would go through that kind of trouble and expense? Anyway, this is an emotional  issue and I have even received hate mail  ("irresponsible breeding program") from within the U.S., while my German friends and acquaintances were all supportive and are very interested in this outcome, including Arko's owners.  That says it all to me! For me, breeding is thinking in generations! http://www.vomsilbersee.com/chuckiearko.html

Gustav, I do think as well that these kind of dogs will one day be a saving grace. There is one beautiful male named Levis von Arlett who I am keeping an eye on since I know him and his owner personally. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/559710.html And then of course, there is my own homebred male Onyx vom Silbersee but he is all workinglines. Another Chuckie son currently residing in Germany.

.....all without breaking the line of descent from Horand

“The line of decent from Horand”. Sounds like the Di Vinci code.

Mmmm, where is the logic in mentioning lines / dogs you know nothing about and writing it like you had first hand knowledge? Bancroft already knows why I disagree with him... I've worked my showline dogs, so have many others I know. If Bancroft wants to cite certain dogs that he knows of first hand... I'll listen and take maybe heed. Same goes for his random statement about black and sable genes... LOL most breeders I know are pretty well versed in the agouti allele!

If he knows nothing prove it! Show us where he is wrong.

You can take 2 unbroken lines and get 2 totally different outcomes, so that isn't saying allot. All it takes is 1 shitter to screw up the rest of the line thereafter. I agree there is no need to mix breeds, if you look, good dogs are out there, working and show lines and even some mixing both. Go back far enough and they are all mixed working/show before the big divide. No need to call in the whites, pandas or dilute colors as of yet. Times are certainly not that desperate.

You are very predictable Christopher... I think maybe put your questions to Bancroft... sounds like he also likes Malinois... your chosen breed, I believe? Please make a little effort to quote me accurately... I say he knows nothing of showlines... does he dispute this?

by Christopher Smith on 07 January 2009 - 20:01

Ok, you say he knows nothing of showlines. So tell us where he is wrong.

Sibersee, I think that the breeding "selection" you mentioned is fantastic for the German Shepherd... Forget about the hate mail and naysayers. Listen to your friends in Germany. I also think that you have unknowingly satisfied the GSD market (but with good intention!). I believe that what the "average joe" perceives a German Shepherd to be is aesthetically show line, but characteristically working line. (My personal favorites as far as markings are bi-color and all black which is typically working line.) Anyway, Kudos to you. Here is a quote for you:

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."     -Margaret Mead

sunshine, I remember Lance and saw him shown in person, also knew Cobert's Reno, his greatest son,IMO. Lance wasn't a bad dog and his son Reno had very good temperament. Lakeside kennel was just up the road from me. We're on the same page as far as when this thing started going out of control.
