I think Dwarf Shepherds are cute..

by Anthony Armstrong on 22 August 2006 - 01:08

Brit you dummy. Do you think it's cute to have a dog sick it's ehole life and then die before age 5? Maybe you should start breeding them?

by blueskyekennels on 22 August 2006 - 04:08

That was a harsh way to put it, but while they maybe cute, yes they do have a lot of problems, as I have heared from more than one source.

Anthony Armstrong, will you get a life? you call me a dummy just because I said that I think Dwarf shepherds are cute... do you have anything better to do then to call me a dummy? I'm well aware of their health problems and I do not need YOU to educate me about it.

Kelly von Dan Alhedy's Hoeve was also a dwarf and she was very much loved by her owner/breeder and lived to be 8 years old.I had the pleasure of knowing her and she was a fantastic dog.She appeared in several magazine and also did commercials for Beaphar. All her life she visited the vet but inspite of her condition she was just a bundle of joy.

Brit it's not just this post that makes you very clearly dumb, it's 99.9% of you posts that add up to my opinion of STUPID! This one just takes the cake. You have needed everyone here to educate you, almost every thread you comment on you need correction about one stupid statement or another. So often if I see your name in a thread I don't even want to read it. Your opinionated idiotic appraoch with know it all attitude gets my goat. I have lots to do besides calling you dumb...I'll get back to it now and leave your education to those who have more patience, more knowledge and more time. I have a little dwarf now for adoption. Want him? He's cute.

In defence of Uran, I had a litter which had one dwarf in it, a female over twenty years ago from strong Marko v Cellerland bitch ex Canto/Quanto dog. The occurance is therefore on three of the main breed lines and can be found widly dispersed throughtout all lines now. luckily it is very rare. By the way the dwarf was put to sleep because at two months she was showing skin problems and a heart defect. Carol

Are we able to post pictures on the board here? I have several of delayed developement pups.

by JudyK on 22 August 2006 - 12:08

I've got either a dwarf or a delayed guy right now. He's 11 weeks old and 13 lbs whereas his brother is 27 lbs. This guy is such a trip. No one has told him that he's small. So far he seems healthy and has as much energy as his brother. My vet has taken some blood work which has been sent to Michigan State and we don't have the results back yet so we'll see if he's truly a dwarf or just a delayed development guy. There's Uran on both sides of the pedigree but these days it's almost impossible to avoid Uran altogether. I'm still in the learning stages about this disorder so if anyone wants more information I'd be happy to share. I don't see any shame in this and the more information breeders can share the more responsible our breeding practices can become. It isn't a matter of "blaming" Uran or any other ancestor, merely a matter of becoming aware of what lines are more prone to produce what characteristics or defects. It's no different than watching for hip ratings in my opinion.

Bjarnehaus, can you send your pictures to me? My email is jmkavanaugh@comcast.net. I'd like to compare them to the guy I have and see how they compare. If anyone wants a picture of my guy I'd be happy to share. I'm sure he's a coat either way. He looks like a mop with legs. So cute and such an attitude.
