I have a very serious question(s) and hope some of the many knowledgeable people on this board will help me out with an answer or two. In a Seiger show such as Ulm coming up or any Seiger show for that matter...what is required of the 12-18 month class is it the exact same as the 24 month plus class? Or what are the differences. I am a novice (as you can see)but would like to know what exactly A-Z happens in this age group and do they have to be titled at this stage (sch1?)and the highest rating given in the 12-18 month class as well as the 18-24 month class an SG1? Thanking you in advance as I know from prior posts there are many extremely knowledgeable people out there and I am anxiously waiting to hear from you. You would be amazed how difficult it is to find books/dvd's etc...explaining these (not generally but in detail)and I am going to order a dvd of a couple of the classes from the U.S.A. Seiger show and if anyone knows where I would like to buy a dvd or two from 2004 Karlsruhe but only these and maybe 1 other age group. Thanks to all for reviewing my ramblings. Respectfully, Dan Heskett sportstuff

First off sportstuff you must spell Seiger. I believe it to be correctly as Sieger. Oh I truly hope that Klara doesn't see this and perceive you as a drunkard.

Dan, The basic difference is that a dog in the 12-18 month old or 18-24 month class need NOT be titled. In fact, a dog may not attempt a Schutzhund title until it is 15 months of age I think. The highest rating the dog can receive in these classes are SG 1 (very good, first place), even if a dog in the 18-24 month class has a title. Once the dog is 24 months or older, then it MUST have a title to even be shown and may receive any rating including G through V, depending on age, titles, whether it is Köred etc. VA designations are only awarded at Sieger Shows, be they in the USA or elsewhere. If you have a specific question, ask. We can help.

Hey sportstuff have you ever heard of bugtrag?

by hodie on 27 April 2005 - 04:04

Dan, I might also suggest you buy the four VHS Tape or DVD series produced by Canine Training Systems on showing the German Shepherd. As well, if you look at the USA website, you can read the rules for conformation shows, including the Sieger Show. Another important difference of course is that if the dog is in the working class, meaning 24 months or older (in which case it MUST have a title), it must also pass the protection phase before the stand exam.

Hodie, Are you saying titles or not they can still obtain the SG1 rating? I thought that in these classes they must perform the 3 phases to compete? Respectfully, Dan
